East Island is Gone!

I just saw a news report that East Island in French Frigate Shoals was wiped out by a hurricane. When I set foot on it
in 1977 it was 1800 ft long and about 300 ft wide. All that was on it was a wooden telephone pole that we could see on
a clear day 6 miles away on the island I was stationed on, Tern Island. The group of islands is about 550 miles west of
Hawaii. In the middle of nowhere. Some good images on this link:
