Police Respond to Cat Attack … An elderly Canadian man was recovering Thursday following a savage attack by his pet cat, which drew four carloads of police, two ambulances and an animal control officer. Gerard Daigle, 80, lost a pint of blood and required stitches after his cat Touti, a diminutive roughly meaning Tiny, launched a frenzied attack after Daigle, who was giving his pet parrot a shower, inadvertently sprayed the cat with water. SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) – Bud Ford wants Jimmy Buffett to flip-flop onto the Illinois State Fairgrandstand. Ford, the state fair’s manager, has been pursuing Buffett, best known for his 1977 hit “Margaritaville,” since the close of the 1999 fair.
“I said I’d take him even if he had to come in a walker,” said Ford, whose latest tactic includes newspaper ads featuring a petition asking Buffett to appear at next year’s fair. Fans can clip the ad and mail it to the singer’s secretary in Key West, Fla.
Last year, Gov. George Ryan, his wife, Lura Lynn, and about 1,500 Hawaiian shirt-wearing fans made a videotaped appeal for Buffett to play Springfield. But the 54-year-old Buffett has long-standing commitments and rarely visits new cities, said Dave Snowden, talent scout for the fair. Ford remains undeterred.
“If (Buffett) says `no’ next year, I’ll come up with another way to invite him and ask again,” he said. “We’ll just keep doing it unless he gets me arrested for stalking or something.”
For anyone out there who has access to the DISH NETWORK as your satellite provider, I highly recommend you checking out their “Tropical Breezes” channel. It plays CD quality songs 24 hours a day with no interruptions and the cool thing is that every 5th song is a Buffett tune. It is pretty much like a Radio Margaritaville mix, with every thing from Club Trini to the Marleys to UB40 in between.
Singer Fred Neil died July 7th on Summerland Key. The NY Times has an article “Fred Neil, Folk Singer and Composer, Dies at 64”
Jimmy Buffett said this quote about Fred in reference to the song “Lucky Stars”: “I learned about Fred Neil from Jerry Jeff (Walker). Steve Huntington (of Radio Margaritaville) had just given me the CD compilation of all of Fred’s stuff. I had it in my car for a month before we recorded and I guess I just slipped into the wonderful and infectious style. This is for Fred and Jerry Jeff”
