From Chad Usery: The following article appeared in today’s Columbus Ledger-Enquirer: “Donny and doughnuts”
An unconfirmed rumor on the new album “Far Side of the World“: Buffett will be doing some recording while in New York City next month (in July 2001, before the Today Show appearance). Possible locations: Jimmy’s Sag Harbor home, Stephen’s Talkhouse, or Murph’s.
The OC Weekly has an article “Parrot Droppings“: Buddy Seigal’s preview of Jimmy Buffett’s Verizon Wireless Amphitheater shows pissed off so many Parrotheads that we are unable to include all of their wonderful musings on the social-physiological origins of Seigal’s critical instincts (“Uncork the Dorks,” May 25).
From Maryanne Barr: I just wanted to let you all know that I’ve finally finished my Senior Project paper, and it’s online and ready for anyone who wants to to take a look at it. I turned the original paper in back in late February, but a much longer version is online now. It’s taken me that long to be satisfied with it! I’ve revised it at least fifty times since it was put online! I welcome any comments you may have on it. Just e-mail them to me! The paper is at http://www.steelcityfins.org/mrb.htm
In the June 2001 issue of GQ Magazine there is an article entitled “Gratuitous Advice”. In it they review celebrities tipping pratices and they said this about JB: “But table 1 is reserved for the 100-percenters. Jimmy Buffett tipped 100 percent on drinks for his band at Coco Loco.” In the same article Mobile was used as the control for the tipping comparison to New York City.
Also this month the latest installment of VH1’s “Cheers & Jeers II” and TV Guide’s “Cheers & Jeers” they give JB a jeer for the insult he gave the ref and being thrown out of the game. The commentator tried to make JB into a role model saying that it would be like your Dad doing the same thing. But then they play the clip of his interview where he said that the first person he apologized to was his son. Now that I believe deserves a Cheer.
From Terri Romeo: In an article in The Palm Beach Post on June 7th, Thom Smith reports on a conversation he had with Jimmy at Sun Fest, a few weeks back. Seems ticket sales for DSTC at Atlantis were lagging but have picked up lately. “Word of mouth is picking up”. According to Smith, “Carnival could be coming stateside, but don’t bet on New York. Buffett already is entertaining offers to set up another long-term cabaret, this one in Las Vegas.”
