Review of the Honolulu Show

Jimmy Buffett and the Coral Reefer Band performed at the Waikiki Shell in Honolulu last night as part of the “Welcome to Fin Land Tour”. The set list from the show is now available.

The Honolulu Pulse has a review of Sunday’s show: “Jimmy Buffett superb at the Shell

Beach balls were bounced, marijuana was smoked, the skies stayed clear, and a good time was had by all last night as Jimmy Buffett brought his “Welcome to Fin Land” tour to Honolulu for two hours of tropical escapism under the stars at the Waikiki Shell.

Buffett took the stage without formal introduction. What was ostensibly pre-show entertainment suddenly became the show. “License to Chill” set the mood for a great escape to Margaritaville.

“You people really don’t care about going to work on Monday, do you?” Buffett said, adding that partying at the Shell on Sunday night is “like starting next weekend early.”

Buffett is famous for changing the lyrics of individual songs to include local references but he did more than change a few song lyrics in making last night’s concert unique and special for Hawaii. He acknowledged concert promoter “Uncle Tom” Moffatt for bringing him to Hawaii for his first concert — at the Shell — 30 years ago, and for booking him in Tahiti for the first time as well. He played “Hula Girl At Heart,” an original from his “Take the Weather with You” album which isn’t usually part of the “Fin Land” set, and switched from guitar to ukulele for a song he introduced as “Swinging Hula Girl.”
