In March 2008 Bob Haslett posted a single comic strip format comment in a thread on the BuffettNews.com forums. The next day he posted another. Well received, these comic strips soon led to an unlikely but still ongoing five year run of over 700 comic strips published five days per week (island time) in their own forum at BuffettNews.
Bob describes his comic strip as “Tropical, Topical and Comical” and one that was “inspired by the online world of parrotheads” (the BN in the comic strip’s title is the nod to its origin at BuffettNews). Bob has been a fan of Jimmy Buffett since the 1970s, and that parrothead theme has influenced the BN Critters Comic Strip every step of the way. Many of his comic strip characters were inspired by his readers and members of the BuffettNews forums, an “honor” known as becoming an “official stripper”. Storylines over the years have included Jimmy Buffett and members of the Coral Reefer Band as well as many other celebrities. In the BN Critters island world, Margaritaville is warmly parodied as “Meglaritamart, Inc.”.
Bob, perhaps better known by his online name of “surfpirate”, has just published a 390 page book complete with back stories and every comic strip he has written since 2008. Available now on Amazon.com.
