John H. Cunningham’s new book: Purple Deceiver

From Anne-Marie Nieves: More than a decade ago, I was introduced to author John H. Cunningham by his agent. I was told that his book debut novel, Red Right Return, was a little bit Indiana Jones, Stephanie Plum and Jimmy Buffett. The protagonist was a water-plane flying treasure hunter named Buck Reilly, down on his luck, and living out of the La Concha Hotel in Key West.

Huh? I scratched my head. I had never read an action & adventure novel.

So, I sat down with Red Right Return, not sure what to expect and a bit anxious that I wouldn’t get it…that I would hate it. Treasure hunter? I watched Indiana Jones movies many moons ago. I read Janet Evanovich. I sang Margaritaville at plenty of bars. What was I so worried about?

My worrying was futile. I loved every page of Red Right Return and all the Buck Reilly action & adventure books subsequently. They are:

  • Red Right Return
  • Green to Go
  • Crystal Blue
  • Second Chance Gold
  • Maroon Rising
  • Free Fall to Black
  • Silver Goodbye
  • White Knight
  • Indigo Abyss

With the tenth – Purple Deceiver – John is at his very best.

Really what’s not to love? Of course, we’ve got pages of intense action, tropical destinations, characters that make us laugh, romance, international crime, bad guys to boot, and Buck himself, an ordinary guy who wants three things out of life: a plane to fly, a treasure to hunt, and a beautiful woman to rescue.

Join us for a fast-paced romp with Buck through the Florida Keys. I guarantee you won’t be disappointed.

About Purple Deceiver

After salvaging the Queen’s Jewels from the wreck of the Nuestra Señora Farnese, Buck Reilly’s finally back on top. Once more hailed as a world class archeologist, he’s riding the wave of success…until his past mistakes begin to surface from the depths. The questionable provenance of his latest find, not to mention the death of his former partner, Jack Dodson, have drawn the eye of law enforcement agencies, from the Bahamian Police to Interpol. As the evidence against him piles up (and legal fees begin to loom), Buck reluctantly agrees to track down a mysterious cache of “great value,” hidden somewhere on Key West by the original owner of the island.

But he’s not the only one. Dozens of treasure hunters have descended on the island, and some will stop at nothing to find the stash first.

Buck’s friends all rally to his cause, but the odds are stacked against them. Can they find the treasure before the competition closes in—and before Buck ends up behind Bahamian bars? Get ready for a grueling race against the clock in the ultimate scavenger hunt.

“Fans of treasure hunt stories and readers who enjoy tales with clever riddles and terrifying antagonists will enjoy this book. I’m just discovering the Buck Reilly Adventures series, and I can’t wait to read more. You don’t have to have read the previous installments to enjoy this one, but once you do, you won’t be able to resist the temptation.”
