From WFLA: Here’s how many Floridians have ordered the new Jimmy Buffett license plate
TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — Florida lawmakers this year approved a new Jimmy Buffett-inspired specialty license plate to honor the late musician.
The new license plate went up for pre-order on Oct. 1. In order for the state to produce the license plate, it must have 3,000 pre-sales. Vouchers for the Margaritaville license plate cost $33.
Data from the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles shows 777 people have pre-ordered the Margaritaville license plate as of Oct. 21.
Proceeds from the specialty plate will benefit the Singing for Change Foundation.
Data shows it’s the fourth most popular license plate of those available for pre-sale. In the Tampa Bay area, Hillsborough County has the most pre-sales by a wide margin.
“Add a splash of paradise to your drive while making a real difference,” the Margaritaville website reads.
To pre-order the plate, Floridians should visit their local tax collector’s office. Some counties allow the vouchers to be purchased online. The vouchers are non-refundable, unless the plate doesn’t meet the pre-sale requirement.
