Re: County makes offer to Tasered 72-year-old
I've always heard that the main argument for Taser use is that it gives LEOs an option to disable and control suspects who present a real threat, short of using deadly force. I don't know where a 72 year old, 4 foot 11 inch 'lippy' great-grandmother fits on the threat assessment scale, but I suppose...

Re: Can't find a vein.. Ohio places hold on execution
I'd like to propose that any state which allows commercial air travel to make every adult on a particular flight subject to a lottery system, wherein if their number comes up, they will be required by law to serve as copilot, er, 'first officer.' If the government (which is us) wants to allow comme...

Smell.
I find that smell is very strong at triggering decades old memories right out of the blue.

Re: Can't find a vein.. Ohio places hold on execution
I oppose the death penalty, but I'm not posting here to debate it. However I do have a suggestion for those places where the government, apparently acting on the will of the people, has chosen to proceed with state executions. Make every adult citizen in that jurisdiction subject to a lottery system...

Re: Airlines are at it again
I believe that, for a variety of reasons, flying across the country, let alone across an ocean, will eventually become too expensive for all but the wealthy to afford. It certainly will not survive into the future as a form of mass transit. It will have relatively little to do with unions, or corpo...

Family wedding in Summerside, Prince Edward Island was a great time!
Also finally got our urban farm/CSA program up and running this summer. Lots of happy customers and lots of fresh, organic veggies.

Re: Cops don't recognize Bob Dylan...
However, when the subject is that of police stopping citizens on the street to demand identity papers, purpose for being there, place of residence, etc., many folks don't see anything wrong with this abridgment of rights. Why not? Why do airline pilots stand idly by while passengers are delayed by ...

While it may be the officer's job and duty to check out the individual who is wandering down the street and peering into the window of a house that is for sale. It is not within their legal powers to require the person to produce ID or for that individual to go anywhere with them. Legally, all Mr. ...

A career of solid journalism unfortunately stained and largely overshadowed in its last years by Novak's participation in the Bush administration's politically-motivated outing of a covert CIA operative. Very sad. Sail on Bob.

Re: Louisiana Rep John Flemming's take on Health Care reform
There's nothing wrong with wanting straight answers about health care reform (in fact, we should all be demanding that), but most of those particular questions do not "stand on their own". They're the very definition of loaded questions: 1. Why do we need to increase spending on health ca...

Re: The future of healthcare in the US?
I did not intend to post again in this thread. I have come around to the point of view that these internet forum 'debates' aren't a productive use of my limited time for recreation and personal growth. Also, someone here told me long ago to step back and consider the 'big picture' ie. the purpose of...

Re: The future of healthcare in the US?
We should go to a single payer system like Canada has, forthwith. This would largely eliminate the incredibly complex and bureaucratic and costly private health insurance system we suffer under and would allow universal coverage. The bill before Congress doesn't go far enough, in my opinion. It is a...
