What kind of vehicle are you tailgating out of? That would make a difference in your design. A truck would be easiest because of the bed rail holes. Ditto in Alabama. People will give you Bamboo here. Soem will pay you to cut theres back for them.

A home and garden store migt have them in the garden section. Or maybe in a floral department of a craft store. Maybe a Pier One if you have them up there? If you have a botanical garden or a large nursery nearby maybe they would have some trimmings they would sell or even give away.

My dad owned a store so I had big boxes all the time. A big box, some crayons and a dull steak knife would keep me entertained for hours.
