Rod Stewart's massacre of the classics doesn't really make him relevant. Artists like Bob Dylan and Tom Waits still writing and recording original material at this stage of their careers is . Then again, Rod's creative well has been dried up for quite some time, at least as far back in the 70s when ...

Is Led Zepp in the HOF? They shouldn't be, crooks that they were for their first 2 albums. Led Zeppelin settled out of court with the Waters estate so that they now see money from royalities. Check the songwriting credits for Bring It On Home from How the West Was Won for instance, they've been alt...

Roger's voice sounds shot on the live DVD that comes with Endless Wire but it sounds fine on the new album itself. As for them debuting so much of the new album in concert, that's actually what a lot of artists used to do when touring behind a new album, including Mr. Buffett.

Isn't there fiddle on Gypsies in the Palace?

I'm also pretty sure the late great Vassar Clements played fiddle on some Buffett albums.

Jim Morris does a few JJW sonss. He does LA Freeway, Sangria Wine, and Redneck Mother. While it may sound kareoke on the cd, he does the stuff really well live. Phin :pirate: well La Freway is JJW Via Guy Clark.. but he does those songs well Redneck Mothers is also not a JJW tune, it's by Ray Wylie...

I've never heard of Jimmy covering L. A. Freeway. Heard JJW and Roger Creager versions. Here is the allmusic guide listing. http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&sql=17:842256 Kind of a neat tool to use. This is only for songs that appear on albums and not covers from live concerts, but I do...

Buffett was once as submersed in hippie culture as the Grateful Dead, "chemical daydreams" aren't mentioned in the liner notes to White Sportcoat for nuthin'.

Faith can engage in damage control all she wants but the proof is in the pudding. And, anyone that doesn't think Faith and Tim are just as "manufactured" as Carrie simply isn't paying attention.

This is the one song that I skip everytime. I really can't stand it. Sing the song, don't speak it. The original by Mary Gauthier is also spoken not sung so he's only doing what's required of the song. The original is also much, much better than Buffett's version but he and the Reefers do give it t...

Nope.. Same here. Like it more when he SINGS not TALKS. ;)
For whatever it's worth, the original by Mary Gauthier is spoken not sung.

Yes, many times. My boyfriend has most of them so I'd have to check to see just how many there are. You have an original though so it's probably worth every penny.

If you like Buffett's Wheel, you'll love the original by Mary Gauthier on her Mercy Now album. Same for the original version of Elvis Presley Blues by Gillian Welch from Time (the Revelator) and Guy Clark's Cinco de Mayo in Memphis from his new album Workbench Songs.

The fact is that Edward Van Halen is a genuine guitar icon. His approach is very unique, and in one way or another he influenced everyone that has picked up a guitar since. Some wanted to be him, and others wanted to be the anti-EVH. Either way, he's an influence. That said, there's no defending a ...

Eddie Van Halen invented the "hammers on" technique that influenced generations of bands in Van Halen's wake. Um, not to argue with you here, but I think Hendrix did this first. Listen to 'Little Wing' or 'Wind Cries Mary' and you will understand. That may well be so but it's what Eddie V...

As to the whole "influenced" argument, I think it has run it's course. Earlier artists have paved the way via blues, jazz, reggae, country, etc. long ago. These days "influence" means trying to find as many bands as possible to imitate a sound (i.e. grunge) as fast as possible t...
