I was just in Punta Cana. Great all inclusive places, but nothing in terms of culture or towns... its far away from any major town. For Rum, I'd hop to Puerto Rico.... and you dont need a passport.

Its a beautiful place and hey, its in RI. The hotels and B&B's can be pretty pricey, though. Great beach.
