I think for around 20 minutes of my life I read Archie. Then I read Ellery Queen Mystery and Alfred Hitchcock. Mostly I read books. For around four years of my life I lived for Nancy Drew and switched to Stephen King when I was like 12yo. My parents clearly didn't care or know what I was reading.

Re: Thoughts on this local criminal court case

There should be a radio record of him starting the pursuit. I believe they are required to report before starting a chase. If it turns out that he did not report and there is no record of this 'speeder' then my opinion will change. I just find it hard to believe that a police officer would fly thro...

Re: Thoughts on this local criminal court case

You can see how it elicits mixed opinions. This could easily go either way. I haven't heard them producing proof of the car he was pursuing yet and when this first happened there was talk that no other car existed. I have heard however that his defense is going to produce evidence to clear him.

Thoughts on this local criminal court case

We have a man who was a well loved state trooper. He was in pursuit of a suspect (he says but not proven yet). He blew a stop sign, hit a mini van with two sisters in it on their way to buy milk. They were both killed instantly. The police have already made a financial settlement with the family but...

Re: Policies on cancellation of plane tix and how late to buy

I was chatting with my travel agent friend and mentioned this trip and she said that with a stay longer than 30 days you will end up with published airfare somewhere between $650.00 and $750.00. She doesn't think the swine flu is going to be that much of a threat to your daughter's travel, not by A...

Re: Who would like to take part in a summer book swap

It's your party but it would probably be best if we found out what authors and types of books the other person reads. If someone sent me Danielle Steel or sci-fi fantasy it would probably go directly into the yard-sale box. But if the person knew I liked mysteries and Hiaasen-esque authors then I m...

Count me in. Question though — are we talking 'current' books, or can they be oldies but goodies? http://smiley.onegreatguy.net/bike.gif -"BB"- They can be anything you think the person you are sending it to would enjoy. The neat thing is you might read something you would never have cons...

Re: 5/02/2009 quit date- Any advice?

Thanks so much everyone for your well wishes and advice. I truly appreciate them. I know it's not going to be easy but I'm determined to make it work this time. My mother died when she was 59 and she was a smoker so that's another motivating factor. I'm going to bookmark this thread for future refe...

Re: 5/02/2009 quit date- Any advice?

I quit cold turkey over 20 years ago. But I was pregnant and for several months even the smell of cigarettes made me hurl. Once my daughter was born I started smoking again for around 6 months. I then realized how ridiculous it was and quit again, cold turkey. You need to keep busy. When you want a ...

If you do change it, you might consider changing your sig-line to something like "Navy Seals are cooler than pirates".

Last chance to add your name to the summer book swap

if everybody posts their name I'll print them up and pick a name for each person. You then get that person's address, pick a used book and send it to them. We can then discuss what we're reading and what we think of it. It can be random books or each person can list what they like to read. It would ...

Re: What are YOU reading?

We should think about doing a book swap over the summer. Somebody can put interested names in a hat, pick out a name for each person and they send them a paperback from their collection. Anybody interested in something like this? I will try reading almost anything although I have definite preferences.

Re: Policies on cancellation of plane tix and how late to buy

I would suggest working with a professional travel agent, who can tell you what's going on with the travel insurance options and what the various airlines will and won't do for you. But by August this swine flu thing will be over and done until September. I am thinking August will be a kind of safe...
