No doubt about it, A1A is a fantastic album and probably the high-water mark of Jimmy's "beach-bum philosopher" persona. I'm not sure it's my favourite, though: "Door Number 3" and "Dallas" don't do much for me (and the former sounds particularly dated three decades lat...

For anyone who's interested, here's what I received back from Amazon: "I checked your order and can confirm that we are preparing it for shipment. We expect to ship it in time for delivery by the date listed in Your Account: 27 July, 2004." Clearly, this does NOT answer my question! I pre-...

Re: Emergency Buffett Album

This came to me today that it would be a good idea to have an Emergency Buffett Album with about 15 songs on it to keep in my car, work, and/or home at all times. Haven't quite decided what my songs would be, but what would yours be? I can see the album cover now. One of those fire alarm pull stati...

Re: License to Chill

I guess I am just too resistant to change and hope this doesn't signal a long term change in style for him to mainstream country. I think a lot of people share your concerns but at the same time I don't think it's that big a departure for JB. He started out playing country and he's just revisiting ...

Problems with Amazon?

Anyone else make the apparent mistake of pre-ordering LTC from Amazon.ca (the Canadian version of Amazon)? I realize this won't apply to probably 99% of BNers, but I'm more than a little annoyed. Here's the story: Early last week, I pre-ordered LTC -- but as of today, still haven't received the CD. ...

The more I listen to LTC, the more I'm convinced that this one stands as some sort of jewel in Jimmy's crown. I mean, I dug out A1A, Livin & Dyin in 3/4 Time and Havana Daydreamin' over the past couple of days and some of the stuff on those albums have as much "twang" as LTC. So to say...

I voted "yes" right out of the gate -- heck, it's my poll! :D Will it sell 6 million copies? Maybe not. But I'm rooting for Jimmy all the way on this one. The way sales seem to be going, I think it's got a great chance of being at least his biggest studio album, anyway. And why not? He des...

Re: LTC Isn't Country

I don't think LTC is very country sounding except for the guest singers. They really sound like all other Buffett songs, a little caribbean, with some southern rock, dash of folk, hint of country, and lots of life. If Jimmy was the only one singing these songs (even the covers), we wouldn't be sayi...

Rememer, we're talking "biggest" -- not necessarily "greatest."

4 1/2 fins up!

An utterly amazing album. It's a nice change of pace to see all those duets -- even though at first I was skeptical. They're really well done, though, and Jimmy and his buddies really make the songs their own. The interesting part of all this is that a lot of people will be paying some actual attent...

I'm in awe of this album. Strong songs, solid performances... a sense of humor, some country twang and just enough of the "trop rock" we've come to know and love. No weak tracks. It has something for everyone -- well, except for maybe the truly hardcore COB,Oers who think Jimmy should have...

Is LTC the "biggest" album of Jimmy's career?

Regardless of whether you think "mainstream" success is a blessing or a curse, License to Chill might just be the album to roll everything into one: massive sales, substantial airplay, popular acclaim, critical success and industry awards.

You've got that right! With any luck, I won't have to cross an international border and drive five hours every single time.

Yahoo! Even though I got shut out by Tickemaster the day the show went on sale, thanks to a fellow BNer, I'm now the proud owner of two tickets! Looking forward to the show. Go easy on me though -- first time!

License to Chill just might be Jimmy's "breakthrough" album -- a strange concept indeed when we're talking about a man who has been on the scene for well over 30 years, whose albums routinely go gold or platinum and whose concert tours are invariably sell-outs! His hardcore legions of Parr...

You might enjoy the Alex Rutledge mysteries, by Jimmy's old Key West friend (and photographer and occasional song co-writer) Tom Corcoran: Gumbo Limbo, Mango Opera, Bone Island Mambo and Octopus Alibi. While they don't share the same slightly off-kilter worldview as JB's stuff, they're entertaining,...

While they're ALL great -- honestly! -- I have to single out Barometer Soup as being one of his all-time best. It was also the first Buffett album (other than SYKBH) that I ever listened to. Chock full of literary references (some obscure, some not), catchy melodies and a nice mix of styles all roll...

That sounds awesome! Call me a Luddite ("You're a Luddite!" -- there, I beat you to it) but how can they have hundreds or even, potentially, thousands of CDs of the show available such a short time after it ends? Even if they limit on-site sales, I wonder how they'll they be able to create...

Assuming my tickets arrive in the mail (crossing fingers), this'll be my first time. What's the score with alcohol/food? Any trouble, or is the venue pretty cool about it?
