Re: What's Everyone Listening To?

THIS ONE'S FOR HIM ... a tribute to Guy Clark ...

My favorite cut so far? COLD DOG SOUP by James McMurtry ... might be the best thing I've heard all year. [smilie=battingeyes.gif]

The friend who is coming with me has a friend who lives somewhere in the area. They're supposed to be looking for places, too. I'll get back with you.

Re: What are YOU reading?

Has anyone read the Mary Russell series by Laurie R. King? Got the galleys for the new Baldacci. It will make the best seller list because it's written by David Baldacci, but it's not grabbing me like his others. New character. Lots of acronyms, government agencies, information in the first pages. I...

DAB: That's great. Let me buy you a drink! FYI. I got an advance copy of THIS ONE'S FOR HIM. James McMurtry's cover of COLD DOG SOUP might just be the best cut I've heard all year. It's a perfect combination of Guy's lyrics, James' unique musicality and the ghost of Townes Van Zandt. I listened to ...

Yes. Double major in English/history. Worked for years in the legal field. Would have never landed a job working for an attorney if I couldn't read, analyze and write an opinion. Now, they pay me to read, listen to music, watch plays, go to concerts, attend the opera and write my opinion. It's a gre...

Re: Texas Wildfires

Nice rain last night. Big thunderboomers, but the wet stuff was good. We need about 30 days of a good soaking rain to make a dent in the devastation ... Please keep us in your hearts during this terrible time.

Re: What are YOU reading?

Have started the Mary Russell/Sherlock Holmes series ... I read THE BEEKEEPER'S APPRENTICE when it came out years ago. A friend loaned her collection to me. Finished the second one, A MONSTROUS REGIMENT OF WOMEN last night ... very interesting. Not quick reads, but I do love the characters and the p...

I thought there was rain falling in parts of NE and Central Texas? Someone fibbed to me dadgumit!! Some places got a little rain, but nothing to speak of ... and the wind dried it up quickly. It's overcast, but still scary dangerous re: risk of wild fires. It's hard to believe this is the green pla...

Molly. There's no rain in the forecast and they're saying fall and winter are going to be dry. What on earth is going to happen now that so many old, established trees have died? I mean, dead. Not coming back. It will take thousands of dollars to cut them down ... and if you can't afford do have it ...
