Haynes and Trucks leaving Allmans

Technically not "Related Artist" news (but JB and Mac did slip in a little "Midnight Rider" into "Great Filling Station Holdup", so close enough for me). I have to wonder if this signals the end of the Allmans; I hope not, but you never know.... http://www.rollingstone....

Re: Introduce yourself to the rest of the phlok.

Good evening to everyone.. I am another old newbie. I may have spent some time here in a previous , and there are most likely still a few people here that are sad to see I can still fog a mirror. But things change and people do to. I was the original jasonmason, or JaMa as some shortened it to, I h...

Sail on Jared Michael Hobgood

Jared Michael Hobgood, one of the stable of regular performers at Irish Kevin's in Key West, passed away earlier this week. From what little information I've been able to find out, it appears he took his own life, but I have no official confirmation or details. Like most of the other IK performers, ...

New Frinzi CD, "Salt River"

Got this last week, very good stuff. I've always liked his stuff as it seems like his music is influenced by the tropics rather than defined by it like a lot of other trop rock artists. Highly recommended.

Re: Jokelben Server complete show list **Updated 11/14/2013**

If you haven't checked this out and mined some of the great riches found within, you are missing the boat. There is some great old (and new) stuff here, and so much of the old stuff sounds surprisingly good. I DL'd the '75 Back Door show from San Diego this afternoon, and it is awesome. Thanks again...

The Talkhouse show in particular is a great add. Thanks for the heads up! (And thanks as well, of course, to whoever downloaded the shows to the site)

Re: THE AFFORDABLE CARE ACT AT THE CMAS

Couple of points... 1. The writer of the article is guilty of an all too familiar double standard - it's ok to mock and belittle the Southerner as an uneducated slack jawed yokel ("redneck morons", "Jethro and Zelda Mae", "electric teevee"), but God forbid said yokels m...

Re: "I Want To Go Back To Cartagena" (Official Video)

I do like both versions of the song, except for the contrived "I love you" exchange at the end in this one. Just seems like such an afterthought and out of place.

Re: Listening to "You Had To Be There" today......

When and if Buffett ever gets around to giving any of his records the expanded remaster treatment, You Had To Be There is crying out for it. For some reason, the levels are incredibly low on it, which means even when I have it at full blast it's still not loud enough. You are 100% correct, Tiki. Ne...

Well, it was I-95, but other than that .... you nailed it. ;-) edit ... I beg your pardon ... it just may have been I-75 ... my bad No worries, I just spun it up to make sure - it is I-75, which makes sense since he "was only supposed to go down to Buckhead to pick up the paper....." 8)

Listening to "You Had To Be There" today......

.......and had some thoughts. 1. What a great setlist. 2. This version of the Coral Reefers rocks like nobody's business - raw and rough. This is a road band. Today's band is much more polished, and probably more talented, but doesn't throw it down like those guys. 3. He needs a harmonica player in ...

Re: Linda Ronstadt diagnosed with Parkinson's

I got on a Linda Ronstadt kick several months ago after reading an article in Rolling Stone about the "mellow mafia" (article below); musicians like Waddy Wachtel, David Lindley, Danny Kortchmar, Leland Sklar, Russ Kunkel, etc. that backed Ronstadt, James Taylor, Jackson Browne, Warren Ze...

Re: Earl's Dead--Cadillac For Sale lyrics

Not sure about: And the rose is red with sharp-like fins And that's where this little love tale begins It's "shark-like" fins according to the lyrics in the liner notes. And the line about her role is wed. ?? "And now Earl is wed, Moonvine's got her veil." Are the lyrics include...

Re: Earl's Dead--Cadillac For Sale lyrics

I wrote a thread years ago that touched on the loss of album art and liner notes with the passing of the 12" vinyl days .... An Open Letter to the CD/MP3 Generation .... I love reading the liner notes. I DL'd the album from iTunes, but always buy a CD as well. I think I'm one of the only peopl...
