Old Parrot Head Headin Up to San Francisco

In a week I'll be takin Mrs. Goodman to San Francisco for my brother-inlaw's 5oth. It's a surprise so keep it down. We'll be in Frisco only two weeks shy of the Labor Day Weekend. So I'm claiming a Buffett mulligan. Any good Buffett sites, eateries, drinkeries I should visit? I'm gonna have to watch...

Parrot Monkey

I like a guy named Parrot Monkey that gets technical on the BuffettNews Board. :-) Bet you didn't know that Russell wanted to call his big album "Art Carny" because he was such a Honeymooners fan.

Parrot Monkey

What I meant was you have a song written in 1975 (before CDs) finally getting covered nearly 30 years later. The original escaped me and I don't think it was a big hit for Leon. Only "Carny" was successful for him me thinks. I could be wrong.

Boats to Build- Once Around the World

First let me say its good to have a proper belt buckle holding up my pants. Second, now I can finally say I've heard Guy Clark's original as well as the covers of Jerry Jeff Walker & Buffett/Jackson. IMHO Walker gets the tip of the mast. All's fair since it's likely Jimmy got interested in the s...

Back to the Island- Back to the History Books

The song is Leon Russell's (two esses)from back in 1975. The album (not CD) was titled Will O' The Wisp. Leon's version goes near five & one-half minutes. JB nearly hits three and one-half.

Jim Croce- PBS Special

Sorry I didn't tape it. I bought the DVD awhile earlier. Ingrid is much too classy of a lady to make the interview portion that revealing or personal. I think Jim's greatest influence on JB was how he told stories to the audience - the so called "raps" as opposed to White Man's Raps. Think...

Jim Croce- PBS Special

Last Saturday nite PBS had a one hour special on Jim courtesy of Ingrid Croce. Jim was the "guy" before his untimely death (9/20/73). Jim's influence on Jimmy Buffett is well established in Pennsylvania and Florida. Just wondering when JB will sing/cover a Croce tune. I don't mean Bad Lero...

Changes in Attitudes n Avatars

In a continuing tribute to Steve Goodman, the new avatar is from the cover of "No Big Surprise", a 40 song anthology that was my real introduction to Steve. The picture was shot in the Netherlands and is a companion to Steve's cover of Michael Smith's " The Dutchman ". This tune ...

Goodman's First LTC Contest- Ad hoc

Friends and neighbors

On LTC, Jimmy makes references to lots of his prior songtitles and lyrics. How's about a thread covering them all. After we're done we can tally the results and I can get a life. :-)

All seriousness aside, a worthwhile scholarly endeavor, no?

Disappointed

First of all I love LTC. Yet I must say that I'm disappointed to see how few tunes Jimmy has written or co-written here. This CD marks a personal low for JB in terms of writing output. Bottom line is the quality of the material, which I feel is up there with anything he's done of late. JB is a brill...
