Mustache on/ Mustache Off

This thread will be hair today and gone tomorrow!

Somewhere between Floridays and Hot Water Jimmy came clean. Since that time (1987?) I don't think we've seen hide nor hare of a mustache. When I think of JB it's of the Jimmy from the early days with a walrus on his lip.

Any thoughts as to why he went clean and more importantly, how he's managed to stay clean?

Granted I'm bottom fishin for subjects, but hell it's nearly Thanksgiving.

in 1981, jimmy noticed "a little more mustache turning gray" in little miss magic. maybe too much of the mustache had turned gray. when too much of my goatee turns gray, off it comes!

i will go along with this. although with all the gray hair products on store shelves, one could wonder if jimmy has tried these during his time off and did not like the result.

Apparently, he just couldnt "be the old me no more". Thats the line in "Homemade Music", during which he removes a fake mustache in the video contained on Tales from Margaritavision.

Don' kno why he shaved. But I kno him mostly without a mustache, I prefer that. Mainly because I started parrotheadism at about the time of the Fruitcakes tour...I was only about 13 at the time. That's my reason.

I recorded Jimmy on the Today show many years ago and he was asked in an interview why he shaved it. He said it made him look younger. Still have that tape.

Found this thread the other day while searching for the ASPL lyrics.

Jimmy's moustache...I always figured he shaved it as part of his getting away from the drugs thing. The timing would fit re. what he says in APLA50 and a couple of other interviews I've read (Rolling Stone from Sept.??). It also made sense to me with the lyric of "I don't want to be the old me no more" from "Homemade Music" (as previously mentioned).
