STOP !!
before you start getting the "mediocore" Cd's ( Somewhere Over China)
you need to find yourself a copy of Barometer Soup... its the best thing in a jewel case you will ever buy
Somewhere over China, despite having one or two classics is one you can live without for awile... get Barometer Soup, some of his really early stuff "A white Sport Coat" " Changes" etc etc

I hope that all the greedy bastards in the world
Come back as lobsters.
You know that life at the bottom of the food chain
Suits them well.
I think that all of the evil people of the world
Come back as horseflies,
They want one last bite before they're sent to hell.

Barometer and A-1-A are high on my list, I can always put off SOC and
get the other two. Sonofabeach mentioned 3/4 Time, I do have that one,
got that and DSTC a couple of weeks ago. I made a separate post for
that, I think it hit page 2 or 3.

A1A is my favorite album...
except for the collection I made...
Favorite one there has to be the collection that includes Please take your drunk 15 y/o girlfriend home , The A$$h@le song and The Crocodile song from Peet's 80th birthday!!
NOT the collection to play with the keets in the car!

"Mommy, when is Jimmy Buffett coming to OUR house? We go see him ALL THE TIME??" (Actual quote from my 5 y/o keet)

Before you get "Somewhere Over China" you have to get 3 other classics. They are A1A, Living and Dying in 3/4 Time and White Sports Coat and a Pink Crustacean. This is pre-Margaritaville and before he was the sellout he is today. The song have real meaning and you can tell were very close to the person he was back then. Nevermind his recycled material he continues to put out, "Meet Me in Margaritaville" and all those lousy live CD's with the same 15 songs on them. Stick with the old stuff, you will learn to appreciate him and his music a lot more.

Is "The a**hole Song" the one that's also known as the "I-95 Song"? If so, that's not Buffett.jimolliemom wrote:A1A is my favorite album...

If these are the lyrics then it's not Buffett singing, it's by August (aka Fred "August" Campbell) & the Spur Of The Moment Band. It just sounds a lot like Buffett. It can be found on the Copulation Compilation album. More info here:jimolliemom wrote:Don't know if it's that I-95 song or not but it is Buffett singing it.

Well I was drivin' down I-95 the other night.
Somebody nearly cut me right off the road.
I decided it wasn't gonna do any good to get mad.
So I wrote a song about him instead.
It goes like this...
Were you born an a**hole?
Or did you work at it your whole life?
Either way it worked out fine
'cause you're an a**hole tonight.
Yes you're an A S S H O L E...
And don't you try to blame it on me.
You deserve all the credit.
You're an a**hole tonight.
You were an a**hole yesterday.
You're an a**hole tonight.
And I've got a feelin'
you'll be an a**hole the rest of your life.
And I was talkin' to your mother
just the other night.
I told her I thought you were an a**hole.
She said, "Yes. I think you're right."
And all your friends are assholes
'cause you've known them your whole life.
And somebody told me
you've got an a**hole for a wife.
Were you born an a**hole?
Or did you work at it your whole life?
Either way it worked out fine
'cause you're an aaaass...hole tonight.

As I've said before, I have Buffett doing A LOT of other peoples music. (back to the Bob Marley discussion) and since he says he's Buffett, I believe him. Maybe I've been duped.....maybe not...back to the whole point of the thread...
Get some other, uncommon stuff. It'll make you like him even more. I have a live in Key West bootleg that I'm sure is also Buffett....very drunk...and very funny.
(Funny how no one argues about the Crocodile song???)

The reason I brought it up was not to be argumentative but to help clear up what apparently is a pretty common misconception about that song. It's also been the topic of discussion here many times before with the conclusion always being that it is in fact not Buffett.jimolliemom wrote:As I've said before, I have Buffett doing A LOT of other peoples music.
