JERRY ANDREW DORMINY
Jerry Andrew Dorminy, age 68, of Destin, Fla., passed away Sunday, Sept. 24, 2006, in the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, after a courageous battle with cancer. Jerry was born in Birmingham, Ala., to James and Edna Helbig Dorminy on Aug. 21, 1938. He was a graduate of the University of Alabama, a member of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity and a veteran of the U.S. Army National Guard.
Through the years, Jerry owned numerous restaurants in the area: J.D.'s, Sliders, The Little Bar, and in 1976, opened The World Famous Hog's Breath Saloon on Okaloosa Island, later moving the establishment to Destin before it spread nationally and internationally to locations in Key West, New Orleans, Cancun and Cozumel.
He was an avid sportsman; hunting and fishing were his passion.
Survivors include his loving wife, Sherry Dorminy of Destin; son, James Dorminy of Destin; daughter, Dru Ann Dorminy of Birmingham, Ala.; one grandson, Michael Dorminy of Destin; and many, many friends and loyal employees.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2006, at McLaughlin Mortuary. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. at the Faith Assembly Christian Church, 306 S. Geronimo Rd, Destin, Fla., on Wednesday, Sept. 27, 2006, with the Rev. Toy Arnett officiating. Interment will follow in Beal Memorial Cemetery, Fort Walton Beach, Fla. McLaughlin Mortuary, 17 Chestnut Ave., Fort Walton Beach, Fla., is entrusted with the arrangements.
