Do you buy (extra) Buffett tickets to re-sell?
We know ticket buying time is a frenzy. And since we have to plan so far ahead getting numbers right can sometimes be a challenge...but I'm curious how people generally approach this.
When TM puts Buffett tickets on sale, if you are lucky enough to get through, do you buy just what you need or do you buy extras to sell? For example, if you need 2 do you buy 4 and put the extra pair up for sale on eBay, BN (or wherever)?

We typically try to get as many as we can. Most years we get just about as many as we need. But there are some years we don't get enough (4 tickets for 6 to 8 people) and some years, like this one, we get more than we need (16 tickets for 10-12 people).
The extras always go on the ticket exchange here at face value. I've both helped and been helped on the exchange before, and whole-heartedly agree with the concept.

I have been known to pick up a couple extra in case friends got shut out.

We only got 4 standing in line and were shut out on the computer. If I could buy more I would and I would share with another BNer!

Ideally, I like to have a couple of people trying for tickets that I need. If one's shut-out, the other might get thru. I can remember only once that both got tickets, which meant extras. Needed four for Chicago, I could only get two and my wife could only get two, so that worked out--but we could have ended up with 8...or zero.

I usually buy just what I need (2). Because 2 pavilion seats together will be waaaaaaay better seats than getting six tickets together.
I used to get tickets for my friends, when occasionally some of them would join me on my overnight camp outs in the cold for tickets. But too many of them began expecting their seats as if it was their right and my responsibility to get them every year.
(and honestly, do you expect many people to post here admitting that they subsidize their Buffett fix by reselling their tickets?)

That's why I did a poll...the votes are anonymous (although I wouldn't be surprised if phjim could look them up if he chose to do so). And if people want to post and share beyond their vote, that's great...but not required.surfpirate wrote:(and honestly, do you expect many people to post here admitting that they subsidize their Buffett fix by reselling their tickets?)

I'll buy what I need the first time through, then I may go back and try for a couple extras to sell them at cost to people who want to go.
This year, since I'm "only" going to two concerts, I only got what I needed.
However, I MAY have an extra pavillion ticket for Alpine.
If I'm able to get a club ticket from our P.H.C. this weekend, I'll sell the one I have to whoever wants it.
And, if I'm able to work some overtime between now and concert time, I may try to buy a few more for anyone wanting to go.

A group of us try at the same time to get into ticket master and buy for the whole group. If we have extras we sell them at face value to BN’rs or real Jimmy Buffett fans. This year I was the only one to get through. I now have over a thousand dollars on my credit card, just my luck. By the way we still need two more……

Typically buy what we need, This year, the two of us going together wound up with two pairs of tickets because 3 of us were trying. But I know we will be able to find some fellow BNer who will want the tickets.
I have bought from the ticket exchange, and sold that way as well and wouldn't think of ever making a profit on them!
