Looked Strange To Me
Looked Strange To Me
The Manfield show opened with the National Anthem which was a great touch. But the tradition when the National Anthem plays is for men to take off their hats. All those around me in the arena did. But the musician on stage playing it, Shimabukuro, had a hat on.
Re: Looked Strange To Me
I have and always will take my hat off when the National Anthem plays.
It blows me away that some people don’t know to do that, or don’t care.

If you were on stage about to play the nation's most revered song in front of a group of musicians you respect deeply and many, many thousands of electrified fans (many tipsy and expecting excellence), would you be worried about remembering to remove your hat or doing the song justice and playing the hell out of it?
I'm sure Jake was nervous and didn't even think about it. Give the guy a break.

Yep, I would remove my hat. And women should have to do this, too. Period. It's a 'rule', it's respectful, and EVERYONE should remove their hats when the National Anthem is played.trojan_sixtyone wrote:If you were on stage about to play the nation's most revered song in front of a group of musicians you respect deeply and many, many thousands of electrified fans (many tipsy and expecting excellence), would you be worried about remembering to remove your hat or doing the song justice and playing the hell out of it?

If an autistic kid can stand in front of a the crowd for a professional basketball game and sing the National Anthem amd remember to place the hand over the heart one should be able to remember to remove their hat.trojan_sixtyone wrote:That's easy to say when you're not the one on stage in front of 30,000 people!SMLCHNG wrote:Yep, I would remove my hat. A woman may leave her hat on indoors or during the playing of The National Anthem, unless it is considered unisex like a baseball cap. When wearing such a unisex cap, a woman should follow the same guidelines as for men.

What about the musicians? Unless they are in one of the armed forces, they are not military personnel and yet they do not remove their hats and certainly can’t place their right over their heart while playing their instruments.

So if I understand this correctly, I can wear my hat while I sing God Save The Queen in Australia as long as I am nervous about performing in front of my peers and thousands of people.
... but what if I'm not nervous?

I am part of an American Legion Color Guard. When we are presenting colors--we do not remove our hats because we are either holding rifles or holding a flag.
Did you hear the one about me being a punk?
Did you hear the one about me being a drunk?
Did you hear the one about me losing my nerve?
Or how I'm just another f**** sheep in the herd?
Did you hear the one about me giving a s***?
Cause if I ever did I don't remember it.

I'd settle for Flav being clean and sober on stage.ph4ever wrote:So would you be cool with Flav not removing his hat?Salukulady wrote:According to this website musicians are NOT required to remove their hats.Salukulady wrote:What about the musicians? It didn't bother me.
The people who continue to talk or walk during the anthem bother me a LOT more !!
(Yes, I DID remove my hat.)

Re: Looked Strange To Me
Was he playing it, or was it canned? If he was playing it, then no problem. If he was listening, then it would be inappropriate to leave his hat on.
