Re: The beginning of the end for yours truly
Sail on, Garry. Always enjoyed the interactions on the set list threads, and later meeting you several times. You were definitely one of core members here that made this place so great. I just reread your first post on this thread, and we'd all be so lucky to go out with such dignity.

Re: The beginning of the end for yours truly
The last time I spoke with Garry (May 22), I told him I would post a picture of me wearing "his" t-shirt. It arrived on Saturday and I am so happy to honor him this way.

Re: The beginning of the end for yours truly
Dear Garry,
When the celebrating is finally done,
when the sun is slowly setting
and the day is getting still and quiet,
may you have one small, last gift...
...a happy feeling
that you have a special place
in the hearts of many people...
because you do.
I had never attended a military funeral service until today. Just pulling into the Rock Island National Cemetery put tears in my eyes and a lump in my throat. Our procession had to wait in our cars for some time until the previous service was done, and seeing the perfectly aligned headstones was powerfully poignant. Some were unclaimed, but I could read the names on others, and see some adorned with flowers, and I considered the sacrifices that so many men and women make for our freedom.
When we assembled for Garry, it began with the military segment of the service, with words of gratitude and honor, and the 21 gun salute, and Taps, and folding and presenting his flag to his brother Sam. All so very moving. The clergy portion was very well spoken, and very befitting for capturing the essence of Garry’s character and charisma. And it concluded with Sam expressing has gratitude to some of the special people in Garry’s life, including Jim and Laurie who Garry stayed with the past year, his long time practically family friend Mike, another friend of 65 years who was lost on the highway, and the rock of the family, their sister Sue. He also thanked ALL of Garry’s friends everywhere for their love and friendship in enriching his life.
It was all simply moving, heartwarming, and special. It was an honor to be there with Cubbie and Mrs Cubbie, CaptainP and Peggy, and Lisa from the ol’ BN boards. Garry will be missed.

Re: The beginning of the end for yours truly
MLB's Field of Dreams game is tonight, the Yankees are playing the White Sox in Iowa. It was supposed to be last year and when it was announced back in 2019, Garry called me and asked if I wanted to go to the game. I don't know how easy, or hard, it would have been to get tickets but if the game had been last year we were going to try to get there. I'm not going to be home tonight, maybe I'll DVR it and watch it tomorrow.
what I really mean . . . I wish you were here

Re: The beginning of the end for yours truly
Aw, this is sad. I haven’t logged on here in years. I knew Garry back when we were all over at COBO. I hate hearing that he passed.
