Her husband, whose insanely jealous (and a real nutcase) keeps giving them to her to 'mark his property' as she claims he says, so no one will look at her.

He wants her to quit her job (and goes out of his way to cause her problems so she will) because if she works, she can save money to get out.

Good thing he's not a tomcat.

How backward a thinker can this man be??

He gives Neanderthals a bad name. He is 14 years older then she is, married her when she was 18...and this is his fourth marriage.

Until recently she was not allowed to wear pants and he has a screaming tantrum if she even trims her hair. (She does have pretty hair...but come on now...long hair needs trims to keep it looking nice!)

The hickeys are just the icing on the cake!

Not allowed? Not ALLOWED? What the . . .???

*simmering down*

I used to do volunteer work in a shelter for abused women and their children. So much of it started out this way . . .

Sorry.

Don't be sorry....we've told her as much....and I think she 'gets it' a bit.....she is refusing to be controlled as much as she was even when she first started working last summer. (We've gotten her stop wearing bulky sweaters and droopy shirts even!)

I work with my husband and my boss's husband also works here (it's amazing how many couples we do have in salary/management...lol) anyway....it's been an eye opening experience for this girl to see how relatively normal married couples interact and that at least in my case (boss doesn't have younger children) that a father is indeed able to take a child to a dentist appointment and knows what their favorite food/color/friend/event would be.

He told her that real fathers don't do things like that. I guess they just leave hickeys.

I had an ex boyfriend that once told me that I had never been abused by a man because I scare the crap out of the abuser types (he was Military CID, he's seen his share of domestics).

I have to feel sorry for this woman.....even if I don't especially like her (probably for the very same traits that an abuser would find irresistible).

In her favor...she's realizes somethings off...and is working towards fixin it......since she's not getting the beat up, I guess it takes longer to come to that conclusion.

Physical wound hurt, but they heal faster than the verbal abuse. You can only take so much of either, but being told over and over that you're stupid or worthless is more difficult to get over. But it can be done. Hopefully she'll see that before it's too late.

My mother is in a real rocky relationship now and has been for a few years. I'll never understand it, one day she'll tell me that she was hit or pushed and then she'll say it never happened, that she was just lying.
Meanwhile she keeps anything of value monetary or sentimental value in my attic unbeknownst to him because she fears that he'll destroy it.
They've had the cops over too a couple of times.
Even had me do a criminal background check on him recently.
I don't get how you could be with someone that you don't trust.
I've never come to blows with the guy but we've certainly had words.
I've talked to her repeatedly about leaving but she never does.
It's been a while since they fought, they're due for one anytime.

Because you once loved that person, and trust wasn't an issue. Sometimes you wear blinders becuase of it. And you hope they can return to the person you fell in love with. Tough lesson. Some people get it, and are strong enough to do something about it, IF they can.

My sympathies to both your mother and you. I can't quite get it myself....but....it's just not uncommon.

I hope your mom figures it out soon. Man, that just has to be tough to watch for you.

That's seriously disrespectful. (Leaving marks, not the white trash comment).

But SWEAR TO GOD, I do that all of the time!!
Anyone who knows me can vouch for the fact that no one has been close enough to give me a hickey in quite some time.
