I loathe best buy.....against my better judgement, I went in there yesterday to buy a new laptop.....fortunately their stellar customer service remained consistent and I walked out in a snit before I could get one of their moronic sales people to help me.....I was able to go down the street to Staples, they price matched and I got the same machine for the same price with decent CS......so yes, yet another reason to hate them.....

I believe several retailers play this game. Internet prices can often be cheaper because the retailer doesn't have to pay the distribution and in-store costs (e.g. getting merchandise to the stores and stocked, sales person). So, unless a customer specifically requests a cost-match to an internet price they won't get it. And some will say "internet price only."
It's just like what airlines do these days, too. You generally pay a lower fare/fee if you book online vs. through a reservation agent...because the airlines costs are lower.
It makes business sense to do things this way but retailers shouldn't hide and/or mislead people about it.

I really don't know why this would surprise anyone.
I've been to BB several times saying that I saw a cheaper price via the internet than I was seeing in the store and they openly admitted to me that they were two separate portals.
If I wanted the internet price, I needed to purchase through the internet.
When I told them "ok" that's what I would do, the salesman stopped me and said he'd give me the internet price.

They are talking about having THREE different prices.
One at the store, one on the internet site , and a third on their own INTRANET site.
The issue is are they deliberatly using that one to prove the customer incorrect when they are requesting the internet price in the store.
Both BB and CC have matched the internet prices every time I have asked for it in person (as well as each other's sale prices), but that scam of having a different web site that LOOKS like the real thing would have fooled me!
I would have attributed the price discrepancy to the first signs of memory loss, and paid too much while feeling stupid at the same time.
Thanks for the heads-up, from now on I won't trust any screen other than my own.
Maybe it's time to go Verizon wireless highspeed so I can keep everyone honest where ever I am.

When ever I go into these stores to purchase a larger ticket item, I have already done my research, printed out a sheet from the lowest priced internet site, and then proceed to one of the other competitors who match the price +10% of the difference. It makes things so much easier
Just make sure the store your going to has the same model number, which can also be found via the internet

My brother in law and his wife bought a washer and dryer from BB with the extended warranty. Long story made short, they were doing their laundry at the laundry mat for 6 months because BB would not honor thier extended warranty agreement.
I loath them too. Fortunately it only took a $19.95 cell phone ear piece for me to learn my life long lesson about thier customer service and return policy.

I willingly will buy CDs and DVDs at Best Buy, but anything that might possibly require assistance from a person with a brain-------NO WAY! I have had one good experience with Best Buy, and that was with a manager, only after 5 others had thoroughly messed up.
