One thing I thought was funny was how every news station explained that, in Iraq, throwing shoes at someone was a sign of contempt. Like it's a sign of honor elsewhere? Sheesh!

The display/hurling of a shoe is the ultimate act of disrespect in the Arab world.
Bush doesn't get it, and feels no insult.

It's the perfect metaphor for the Bush presidency.

Completely and utterly clueless :-?

Whether you're a Bush supporter or not, if ANYONE is not insulted by this, as far as I'm concerned, they have absolutely NO national loyalty, and, as such, can take their sorry a$$ to Iraq, Iran, or any other third world dump that will have them.

Even if I'm not the biggest Bush fan I do respect the presidency and am glad this dude got a good beating for this. However I can see the humor, the look on President Bush's face is quite funny and his reflexes are on point.

I'm more upset that White House press secretary Dana Perino got a black eye from the ensuing melee.

I like the earlier insinuation above, "George W. Bush... love it or leave it"

I think it would have been great if Bush would have went after the guy. The Pres hurdling a few rows of chairs and being restrained while pointing at the reporter. That would have made a great news story!

Would that be a sign of respect if he threw his "clean and polished" shoes at him?

If we take away their shoes, only reporters will have shoes.

Shoes don't kill reporters with shoes do!!!!

I'm not anti-shoe, just pro shoe.

I thought that WAS YOU THROWING THE SHOES. :o

Still....I COULD CARE LESS IF THE ARAB WORLD IS "UPSET". Will it bring back my friends son from the WTC....no. so should I go to Al Kadia and throw my shoes....oh wait...there is no such country. This bleeding heart thinking is killing me and has killed American's in the past. But at least Iraq can now show such public display's of government. 7 years ago he'd be dead....wait 7 years ago there would have been no press conference at all.

With all due respect...you have no clue what's going on in *anyone's* head other than perhaps your own, and therefore have no basis upon which to judge anyone else's "loyalty."

This guy was only doing what half of America wishes *they* could do. Is it somehow more repugnant if a "furriner" does it?

"Love it or leave it" is *so* 1970s.

I don't think half of the country wishes they could do this.
I would hope most americans would be civilized and respect the presidency even if they disagree with the president.
Protesting the prez is fine but when it comes to doing harm or this type of behavior they deserve the same beatdown that this fool got.

On the contrary, you people are WAY too easy to read. You get a kick out of some raghead throwing a shoe at a U.S. President, but yet want to give MIRANDA RIGHTS to the terrorists at Guantanamo Bay who would kill you or me in a micor-second if they had the chance.
Thank God we have a president who not only kept us safe for the last seven and a half years, but one who had the balls to not compromise his soul to be popular.
This guy was only doing what half of America wishes *they* could do. Is it somehow more repugnant if a "furriner" does it?
WRONG! The guy did what I wish I could do to half of the Americans.
And HELL YES, it's more repugnant if some raghead WE HELPED FREE does it.
I'd like to B|TCH SLAP that ungreatful bastard.
"Love it or leave it" is *so* 1970s.
YEP!
I said it in the 1970's when I was dodging bullets for this country, and I say it even more so today.
LOVE IT OR GET THE HELL OUT!

OH, and one more thing-
With God as my witness, if any sonofab|tch EVER does something like this to ANY U.S. President, be it George W. Bush, Bill Clinton, Barack Obama, HILLARY CLINTON, or Joe-sh|t-the-ragman, and they do it in MY presence, so help me God, if I don't get killed in the process, I'll be stomping MY size 13E shoes all over their face.
ESPECIALLY if it's a "furriner" we helped liberate.

Again, EVERY American should've been insulted by this, even if a$$holes like David Letterman and Keith Ovaryman aren't.

Thank you, Michael.
It's SO nice to see civility on the other side.

You're right-MOST Americans do respect the presidency, and can disagree with the person in office CIVILLY.
Then you have some like a few people here.

"With all due respect...you have no clue what" half of America wishes they could do, only what you wish you could do.

As other people have said respect for the office of the president should transcend politics. He is your president as he is mine whether you like it or not. Just as Obama will be my president just as much as he is yours.

Love it or leave is so 1970's, I agree. And still as true today as it was when it was first spoken.
