Have you ever been a hurricane?
The 2009 hurricane thread got me thinking.
Has your name ever been used as a hurricane? Did you ever amount to anything?
Do tell! Do tell!

Thought this was a search for Rubin Carter, on the basis of the title!

Re: Have you ever been a hurricane?
From Wikipedia (so it must be true):
1991 was also the same year that the Bill Murray film "What About Bob?" was released. A banner year for Bobs everywhere.Hurricane Bob was the second named storm, first hurricane and first major hurricane of the 1991 Atlantic hurricane season. The only hurricane to make U.S. landfall during the 1991 season, Bob brushed the Outer Banks of North Carolina as it moved northward. The storm then struck New England and later Atlantic Canada as a category 2 hurricane. Bob left eighteen people dead, 16 directly in the U.S. and 2 indirectly in Canada, and $2.8 billion dollars (2005 USD) in damage. It is still the most recent hurricane to strike the Northeast, as of 2008, but 2 tropical storms, Beryl in 2006 and Hanna in 2008, have struck New England since then.

From Wikipedia:
![battingeyes [smilie=battingeyes.gif]](./images/smilies/battingeyes.gif)
The name Connie has been used for one tropical cyclone in the Atlantic Ocean, and three tropical cyclones in the Eastern Pacific Ocean. It was used in the Atlantic before the formal naming system was instituted, and in the Pacific with the old four-year lists. It has not been used since the six-year lists began; the name Connie will never again be used due to being retired for severe destruction in 1955.

Yep, and it hit in the Carolinas....Where I lived. I was almost 2 when it hit.....
My mother's name was Hazel and the year before Connie?
"Hurricane Hazel was the worst hurricane of the 1954 Atlantic hurricane season and one of the worst hurricanes of the 20th century. Hazel killed as many as 1,000 people in Haiti before striking the United States just north of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina and south of Wilmington, North Carolina as a Category 4 hurricane. Nineteen people were killed in North Carolina, and 81 people were killed when it subsequently hit Toronto, Ontario. It is the strongest hurricane ever recorded to strike so far inland."
I'm a little concerned about a couple of this year's names...

I predict the 12th storm of 2009 will be nothing more than a lot of wind. If ignored, I would anticipate no real damage.

Re: Have you ever been a hurricane?
To clarify this, I haven't shared a name with a hurricane, I don't know if I shared a name with a cyclone. Yes, I know, technically the same type of storm.
If you want an experience, go to a Jimmy Buffett concert.
Experience is something you don't get until just after you need it.
Life is short, live long!!
I'd rather be a wiseass than a dumbass.

Re: Have you ever been a hurricane?
The name Debbie has been used to name for four tropical cyclones in the Atlantic Ocean. There were several tropical cyclones with the similar name of Debby, which is on the modern lists.
* 1957's Tropical Storm Debbie - a tropical storm which moved into the Florida panhandle in 1957.This is the year I was born
* 1961's Hurricane Debbie - eventually hit Ireland and Britain, causing 11 deaths in Ireland.I was just going home
* 1965's Tropical Storm Debbie - which caused heavy rainfall in Mobile, Alabama late in September 1965.Trying to get Mr. Buffett to move to Florida
* 1969's Hurricane Debbie - seeded by Project Stormfury before later brushing Newfoundland.I have no idea what this means
The name Debbie has also been used for one tropical cyclone in the southwest Pacific.

Hurricane Shannon..... um no, very rarely have we gotten into the 'S' names.
Now have I been in the storm, I can't count on two hands...... Tryin' to reason with the Hurricane season.

Hurricane Barbara, August 1953.
