Thanks, Skibo. That's more or less what I was saying; you just put it in a nutshell.

If anything, films made post-1970 benefit from having much more accurate info about the the time period available to them or is this what is referred to as "revisionist history"? As for not wanting Westerns to provoke thought, why should they be any different from other genres of movies? Over the years, Westerns have incorporated elements of comedy and drama. Some, have even shot for a sense of realism, true to the time period. For years it was believed Columbus discovered America. Is it considered "revisonist" history that he did not? Once new, accurate information has been made available I see no harm in it being utilized in the making of movies or the re-writing of history books. I also have no problem with movies such as The Unforgiven that make us look at gunslingers from a different point of view than was the norm in Westerns to start with.

I was trying to think of a western I liked. And I realized that I really don't like any of them.

There are lots of types of movies I don't personally care for.

Violent, depressing, or sad movies are all on my list of no no's. I don't go to the movies to be depressed or enraged. I want them to make me feel happy/good. We can get bombarded with enough of the bad stuff without even trying... :-? I can't imagine wanting to pay to sit through something that makes me unhappy.

I agree. Jimmy was a kind man. And my grandfathers' commanding office in the Army Air Corps. And I loved his acting. :)

Hey, this was one I liked and remember well. Using real-life brothers seemed to make the James, Fords and Youngers that much more credible.

GREAT soundtrack, too.

I concur. :D When are you heading back to Hawaii? I need to restock the supply of champagne and cheez whiz. Also need to develop a cover story for your visit. We don't want to end up on TMZ. :P

Not a real big fan of westerns, just wasn't my thing, I guess. I did like the Young Guns movies though. Billy the Kid's story has always intrigued me. The only western novel I ever liked was Anything for Billy by Larry McMurtry.

Fans of author Larry McMurtry may also enjoy the songwriting of his very gifted son, James McMurtry. James is presently one of the very best songwriters out there.
