This is pretty cool:

Breaking down barriers, one pitch at a time

36 year old Mom throws BP at spring training

http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news?slug=t ... frm_woah=1

"To her uniform sleeve, Siegal had duct-taped a patch honoring Christina-Taylor Green, the 9-year-old girl killed in last month’s Tucson shooting. Green was the only girl on her Canyon Del Oro Little League team.

As Siegal pitched, she calmed her nerves and dried her palms by singing to herself, a song by U2 called, “Sometimes You Can’t Make It On Your Own.” And she thought of all the people who should have been on the mound beside her: Grandfather Alvin, who’d turned her on to the Indians of Municipal Stadium, father Michael, who loved the game like she did, and Jaz, whose precociousness, well, had to come from somewhere."

Thought I would throw this out there, had a business trip cancelled to the Tampa area in March. I have two tickets to the Yankees-Pirates spring game on March 9 in Tampa, it's a night game. If anyone is interested please PM me. Paid $66 for the pair, will sell them for $40. Thanks.

For a Pirates pre season game against the aging overrated Yankees my fee is 25$ to tear up the tickets and urinate on them. But will give you a one time offer of 9.99$.
the hit and run is as good as any religion around this time of year . . .

Time for some annual Buffettnews MLB predictions:

I already made some of mine but here we go for 2011

American League:

East: Red Sox
Central: Tigers (Max Scherzer is nasty)
West: A's
Wild Card: Toronto

AL MVP: Miguel Cabrera . . . yeah . . . Miguel Cabrera (or Nelson Cruz)
Cy Young: Jon Lester

National League

East: Braves (I might be the only guy NOT picking Philly)
Central: Milwaukee (Greinke dominates Reds)
West: Giants
Wild Card: Philly

NL MVP: can't bet against Pujols looking for money
NL Cy Young: Zack Greinke
the hit and run is as good as any religion around this time of year . . .

I agree with most of your picks, but why Atlanta in the East and Toronto with the wild card?
If you want an experience, go to a Jimmy Buffett concert.

Experience is something you don't get until just after you need it.

One of the three most valuable commodities in the Cardinals' clubhouse, Wainwright probably won't be in the clubhouse -- in uniform -- very often this summer. He has been betrayed by the ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow. If a second opinion -- that of renowned orthopedist Lewis Yocum -- confirms what the Cardinals' medical people suspect, Tommy John surgery awaits Wainwright.Club doctors in St. Louis examined Wainwright on Wednesday and the results of magnetic resonance imaging done in Florida on Tuesday. Nothing they detected altered their thinking or the perception expressed here Wednesday morning by general manager John Mozeliak, that Wainwright must undergo the reconstructive procedure named after the former White Sox, Dodgers and Yankees pitcher who had his left elbow reconstructed in 1974.

Phillies had tried to shop around Joe Blanton since signing Cliff Lee. When no takers ponied up, Phils decided to keep Blanton. Now, with Wainwright out for the season, could Cards have a "sweeter" deal to offer Phils for Blanton ?

I would be more concerned with Jake Westbrook and Kyle Lohse as as your 3rd and 4th starters then I would be about losing Wainwright. Losing an ace pitcher only drops win totals by 6 - 7 games which, I know, is significant but not world ending. The fact is when you have those two guys as your 3rd and 4th starters winning the NL Central or putting yourself in a Wild Card position was unlikely no matter what happened. Milwaukee and Cinci are too stacked. And the Cubbies are a legit contender.

I will say this about St. Louis, though . . . your infield defense could be tops in the NL.

1st: Pujols
2nd: Schumaker
3rd: Freese (in 66 games: 139 Assists with 22 Double Plays with .950 Fielding %)
SS: Theroit
C: Yadier

If they all play to potential then it will be tough to score runs even with the aforementioned pitching staff.
the hit and run is as good as any religion around this time of year . . .

For, lo, the winter is past,
The rain is over and gone;
The flowers appear on the earth;
The time of the singing of birds is come,
And the voice of the turtle is heard in our land.

I love the start of baseball season and always loved hearing Ernie Harwell recite this before the Tigers' first game! I thought it was fitting for today.

PLAY BALL!

NL Central pitchers are passing around the injury bug. First Wainright is out for the season, then Carpenter's hamstring, and now Greinke comes out struggling with a bruised side (supposedly not serious). This has to be the 3 best pitchers that my Reds would face this year in the Central. They say Carpenter's injury shouldn't be serious, but you never know with a hamstring. Look at all those years when Ken Griffey Jr. played for the Reds. He hit the DL every other month it seemed like.

Wow, Baltimore is 3-0 after beating the Phillies 6-5 today........yeah, I know, it's Spring training, regulars don't play much, people out of their normal positions, etc., etc.

But after 13 straight losing seasons, Orioles fans will take any glimmer of hope! (I think we'd better enjoy Spring training....... :o )
