Make it a Parrothead Euro Tour. Fly to where it is cheap and work your way to London.
Some of us are already talking about Parrotheads in Bavarian Paradise (Oktoberfest) for after the next Paris show.

Bob, I have come to the same conclusion about waiting in line, although to be honest we did it this year because it was more fun than the other options (or equal fun and cheaper - we did find beer prices in Paris bars about double the price in London). But we found the people who were directly behind us in the concert had started queuing 6 hours after us, so you do wonder why you bother. Do we know for sure that it is Jimmy's intent to give the flip flops to the first in through the door? If that is the case the only time that's happened this last 3 years is in London because at La Cigale he hooked them on the fishing line for Dutch Harbour.DCBob wrote:Chris, thanks for your comments.
For the record, I was not first in the door and would not have gotten them. Also, for the record, last year Jimmy handed me the flipflops, thinking I was the one who gave him the shark. I gave them to the Jill and Joek, who he had intended them for. So from my standpoint, there's no consolotion, as I was never in the picture on getting them. Jimmy's intent was to give them to the first in the door. Matt was first in line and first in the front door. Security created the situation that someone else, who also was in line most of the day, and a dedicated fan, made it to the front rail before Matt. So I really don't care what continent they are on or how you rationalize it. Matt was first in the door and Jimmy in good faith gave them to who he thought was first. That's twice in a row his intent has not matched the reality.
I will state again, just like you said, everyone worked it out without any issues for space on the rail up front. My thanks to all for that great spirit.
As for wishing for La Cigale, there they let a bunch of people in early and they took the spots right in front of Jimmy. No idea why. In London, I had friends wait in line for the seats, which were also first come, first serve. Only to find "reserved" signs and ushers keeping them out of the best seats. Apparently reserved for the promoter's friends. In New Morning, it was people just pushing their way up front and causing conflicts.
All in all, my main point is that waiting all day in line always seems to have something happen that is caused by the venue, promoter or other fans. In the scheme of things it is still pretty good, but taking camera's, not giving out will-call tickets in advance, and not maintaining the order for the people up front just didn't need to happen. As a result my Paris line days are probably over.
As for those reserved seats at London, at the time I was told they were for his contacts at Wimbledon and I assumed they fell victim to his fall-out with Wimbledon officials and/or I seem to recall that Andy Roddick was playing quite late that day.
But at least we were there, but that will be my last Paris I think. Brussels would be a nice alternative though.
Cheers, Chris.

Chris,
At La Cigale we were certainly NOT the first in the door.... I think it was because to the fishing pole and giving him a chuckle over it (along with wifey-poo's hand written sign) that earned her the flip-flop... The previous year at New Morning, he was very specific as to who he gave the flip-flop to as well as other trinkets (set lists, picks etc)....I think that to get them you need to at least provide him with a chuckle or reason to send it your way.....

To the tune of..... well you know.......
Gave out my flip flop
Maybe not 'tip top'
It wasn't the guy at the front of the line
Must be my old age
I'm not on the right page
Must get my darn act together next time

Very late in the day but is it great to see everyone again and much fun was had. I suspect Paris is still looking for whatever John managed to get in his suitcase this time. As for the set list am I the only one who thought he sang the BBC version of come Monday.

I thought a lot of the dialogue was carefully worded - it felt a bit like a canned concert to me...... Less 'fire' in it than previous years!!
PS Did Sally manage to find the book??

Re: Who's going to Paris 2011 9-26-11 ??
I think some folk are getting overly uptight about the Paris experience.Yes the security were a bit ott this year. For any standing section its nigh on impossible to ensure that people get to stand at the stage perfectly in the exact order in which they entered the venue. For me its a fine line between fanaticism and stupidity to spend a whole day queueing in line. For ME ,I said.I mean I have admiration for you guys who do it.On the morning of the show we went to the Eiffel Tower, then had a fabulous lunch in a restaurant near The Louvre, then returned to hotel to "change", then the cafes beside the venue, then into the line (with another bottle of wine) and into l'Olympia about 7.30pm where we easily walked to about thirty yards from the stage.(without skipping anybody)
All in all we had a fantastic day,met super Parrotheads before, during and after the show at Kitty O'Shea's.Yes its great to see Jimmy up close and personal but we choose to have a great day in Paris first and still get to be thirty yards from him.Its PARIS, just about our favourite city in the world and we're also lucky enough aswell that Jimmy has chosen to play there these past years. I reckon the reason Paris has been so special, apart from the great shows, is because of you people and the amazing atmosphere that you create. You can tell Jimmy really feeds off it.
As regards the debate about Euro shows next year Jimmy might just surprise us all.He has said that the stand alone Paris show does make money.Any London date will hopefully be either just before or after the Olympics and not during it.Maybe on the other hand we might get a totally new city and venue? Now that would crank it up again folks wouldnt it?!

Cabanaman, yes, if Jimmy fancies the experience of playing inside a ribbed condom then that looks the place. Alternatively somewhere without the great Gateshead acoustics but with the name, and paid for by Mick himself, and it sure would be easy for me to get to, even crawling I could make it in 5 minutes.

You tell em Bob. First two years were great, tailgate at Sacre Coeur, La Cigale. Wine and cheese in Tuileriers this year. But a full pat down at a Buffett concert in Paris and second lineup inside to get prepaid tickets was too much. Hard rock cafe tailgate and US airport security screening reminds me of a concert in Las Vegas. Heres hoping a change of venue is in the works or count us out.DCBob wrote:Comments calling me stupid are exactly why I rarely post on this board. But this show was nearly 2 months ago, so gonna lock it up before anyone gets upsets about 'stuff'..
