I've read a couple reports on this now. The indictment basically says that Troy bought the caged bear from the other guy, killed the bear with a bow and arrow while it was being videotaped and then edited the video to make it appear that he actually hunted the bear down. His lawyer is saying that Troy is pleading ignorance. Basically arguing that the other dude got him what he believed to be the appropriate permit and that what they were doing was legal as far as Troy knew.prrthd1987 wrote:I was thinking the same thing... I don't think I would want to go close to a bear even if it was "tame"ToplessRideFL wrote:Not passing jusdgement...dont know the whole story.... however.....Is there really such a thing as a tame black bear ?
Those laws are mainly setup so that poachers can be imprisoned, I seriously doubt they are going to give him jail time.

if the first part is to be believed, the defense claim should just get laughed out of court.Harry_Fins wrote:I've read a couple reports on this now. WOW, what a brave hunter this jackass is. First people shoot polar bears from helicopters, now this guy buys a bear to release and shoot? What next, fising in his kid's goldfish tank? He should get jail time, ignorance of the law is not a defense, even for dumbasses.

"This week on CMT: See Troy Gentry Hunt bear. With a twist. one in three of the bears (all of which, the actual bears that is have been tranquilized with enough PCP to drop.. well. a bear") is really a man in a bear suit, armed with a taser. Tune and see the hilarious hijinks that ensue as Mr. Gentry discovers more than he bargained for.."PirateJohn wrote:I'm not familiar with this guy but I've got to say that shooting a caged, tame bear strikes me as being about as loathsome as shooting your neighbor's harmless pet. Pretty disgusting.
