Will Jimmy Buffett shows be a sell out?
I am beginning to think, if Jimmy waits to long, people are going to find other concerts to go to or make vacation plans. Dont get me wrong, I like going to the Buffett concerts. But if Jimmy waits until some time in April to release is tour. He might have trouble selling out some of his concert.

Re: Will Jimmy Buffett shows be a sell out?
I don't think he sells out all the venues now except for places he hasn't been to in a long time. Tampa still has tickets, even Birmingham still had tickets the day before. GW didn't sell out last year - there have been endless debates as to why. The only thing that goes fast are the front sections. There may be some truth to the fact that the longer he waits the more difficult it will be to sell tickets. Time will tell.

look at the prices for tickets , it's getting to the point i can't afford them , 150.00 is a lot to drop, casino shows are about 250.00 ...... then you get Greatwoods, which has the outdoor lawns, that they charge they charge 150.00 . In this economy money is tighter. Maybe overkill ( he does tour every year ) , no new material in a while. Those are some of the reasons i can think ofScarletB wrote:I don't think he sells out all the venues now except for places he hasn't been to in a long time. Re: Will Jimmy Buffett shows be a sell out?
The last time I looked Honolulu still had tickets left (a couple of days ago).
At the shows I have gone to in the last few years it seems that the front sections and the lawn seats (or cheapest seats in stadium shows) go quickly. It's the seats that are farther from the stage that still have that $150 price tag that seem to have trouble selling. I know in STL last year, they were selling the back of the seating section at lawn seat prices the day of the show.
I will pay top dollar for an act I have never seen or get rarely get a chance to see (i.e. U2 last year) but for the classic rock groups and JB it's the lawn seats for me.

Eventually he will start playing smaller venues. Can't be packing stadiums forever.

Re: Will Jimmy Buffett shows be a sell out?
His shows are popular enough that if he waited till May to announce his tour, he'd still sell pretty well. Only the devoted are planning vacations around him. Every venue that sells out has people who will snatch up the extras if they're available. I agree that the ticket price is the problem. It's a prime example of the market dictating the price. He charges scalper prices because he gets it and the shows still sell really well. Dropping the price $25 would let him announce concerts a week out and fill some venues up.

If he plays Pine Knob, it will sell out. In seconds. And he has been here for the past few years.

He can schedule a concert here on my kids birthday, and I'll be buying tickets to the concert. He'll sell out here no matter when the concert is.....if he has one.

Not necessarily. With Jiffy Lube Live's tailgate ban last year, the section I was in was 60%+ empty and I was only half way back in the pavilion.smiller wrote:He can schedule a concert here on my kids birthday, and I'll be buying tickets to the concert. Jimmy is getting older. Be glad he still tours! Go to every concert you can.

Re: Will Jimmy Buffett shows be a sell out?
If he is selling out like some claim...then why have all the shows up to now not sell out?...and GW, one of the top selling tour stops wasn't sold out ,even when they cut down to 1 show. Tampa still has tickets. If selling out the lawn is considered a sell out , then every show is a sell out.

I think the days of selling out every tour stop are over. As others have said...you can usually get tickets to a show up to the day of the show from Ticketmaster.

He comes close enough to keep doing it!
Re: Will Jimmy Buffett shows be a sell out?
I think the ticket prices are keeping a lot of people away. It wasn't too long ago that you could go to both Great Woods shows for what it cost, and maybe a little cheaper, to go to just one now. I'm sure it was and is like that at every venue now.

Re: Will Jimmy Buffett shows be a sell out?
Jimmy doesn't lose either way...he gets paid so much , the venue loses. He may lose on T-shirt sales which i think he has anyways with the high cost of them. Also , a lot of venues you can get bootlegs a lot cheaper and actually better quality. Also his shows are aired on RM , so he gets that audience. I wonder how attendance would be if he didn't air the shows!!MDown wrote:He comes close enough to keep doing it!

I don't listen to the concerts on RM anymore - considering that they change so little I don't want to be tired of it before I even get to the live show. I check out the setlists just to see what he's doing in any given year but I haven't listened to one yet this year.

Re: Will Jimmy Buffett shows be a sell out?
i haven't either ,or really haven't in years.....usually during the usual tour months, i'm playing softball or golf or something outdoors...so i miss a lot of the shows anyways....i like to be surprised with what he is going to play....i do check the WTF set list, since i saw him twice this tour, and i don't plan on seeing the rest of this tour.ScarletB wrote:TommyBahama wrote:Jimmy doesn't lose either way...he gets paid so much , the venue loses. Re: Will Jimmy Buffett shows be a sell out?
In the economy of the past few years, Buffett tickets on concert day are like houses... plenty available, and cheap. (or free even) It's definitely a buyer's market. I don't know many people who even try to buy them when they go on sale any more, knowing they can always pick them up in the lot or box office on 'game day'. Times have changed dramatically.
That said, I don't think the delayed announcement of the tour dates will affect sales at all. Around these parts, I think there are as many casual fans who don't keep their finger on the pulse, as there are rabid fans chomping at the bit in anticipation of tour dates. They'll get them when they get them, or they won't, with minimal distress.
