Best Live Album for featuring horn section?

Post by shocktrauma »

I'm a newer Parrot Head and am anxious to get a Live album that best features the Coral Reefers' horn section.
I know that Amy Lee led the section from '93-06.
What's the best live album during that time, from the perspective of highlighting the horns?

Thanks!

Live at Fenway Park would be my pick. Lots of arrangements on that cd that highlight the horns.

You can go to the Concert Trading forum and download some shows to get a few ideas. viewforum.php?f=29
The Tiki Time Tour had some pretty good set lists featuring the horns and, since that's the year that Jimmy put out all the "Live in ....." CDs, there are several different shows to choose from. I'm partial to the "Live in Auburn" CD because I was at that show (it's the closest he's been to Seattle in 28 years.) The mini-matinee DVD is short, but pretty good and has the added bonus of video of the horns.

>EDIT>
I just listened to "Live in Auburn".... here's the set list:

Disc 1
1 – Great Heart
2 – Saxophones
3 – Gypsies In The Palace
4 – In The Shelter
5 – Grapefruit-Juicy Fruit
6 – Son Of A Son Of A Sailor
7 – Knees Of My Heart
8 – Burn That Bridge
9 – Come Monday
10 – The Natives Are Restless
11 – It's Five O'Clock Somewhere
12 – One Particular Harbour
13 – Cheeseburger In Paradise
Disc 2
1 – Tiki Bar is Open
2 – Everybody's Talkin'
3 – Why Don't We Get Drunk and Screw
4 – I Still Miss Someone
5 – It's My Job
6 – I Don’t Know (Spicoli’s Theme)
7 – A Pirate Looks At Forty
8 – Changes In Latitudes, Changes In Attitudes
9 – Tampico Trauma
10 – Mexico
11 – Margaritaville
12 – Volcano
13 – Fins
14 – Far Side Of The World
15 – The Wind Cries Mary

Saxophones (of course), Tiki Bar is Open, and Tampico Trauma all have good horn parts, and APLAF has the great Amy Lee solo. I was surprised that Fins and Margaritaville even sound better with a layer of horns in the background.

I know the voices in my head aren’t real, but sometimes they have really good ideas…..

Dave and I really miss the depth that the horn section added. Some songs just sound flat or less exciting now even though they try to change it up a bit.

He can never play "if I had A Saxaphone" again.

Live at Fenway and the Tiki Time Tour are really good ones!
Good luck.
