How long have you been a Parrothead?

Post by beachbum13 »

Since I'm new here I was wondering how long people here have been Parrotheads?

I discovered Buffett in Coconut Grove FL at the Coconut Grove Arts Festival in the late seventies. After coming home I bought "You Had To Be There" and I was hooked.

My brother heard me play the album and shared with me his library of Buffett albums which I quickly taped on to cassettes. It was one of the first times my brothers and I connected musically.

I will never forget the first time I heard "The Captain and The Kid". My grandfather was dying and it was one of the first times a song "touched" me. Coming from a family of sailors "Son of a Sailor" hit home too!

Since 2000......Met some great guy in a chat room of all places
got to talking....started talking music...he talked of his love of Jimmy...got me really interested....I fell for Jimmy...hook, line and sinker....and haven't stopped since....I may not get to a whole lot of concerts...but that doesn't mean I love him any less.....funny thing....haven't talked or seen that guy in years....Glad he left me with Jimmy :D :D

Started liking Buffett when a friend of mine brought over the brand new album called Feeding Frenzy.
If you want an experience, go to a Jimmy Buffett concert.

Experience is something you don't get until just after you need it.

Life is short, live long!!

I'd rather be a wiseass than a dumbass.

I am still trying to nail this year down...Either 91 or 92. My bestest friend bought me a ticket for my b'day which was several months earlier, when at the time you could stand in line at the music store (forgot the name of it now) Hardly anyone in line, tics were not even a problem to get back then. Haven't missed a show since then! And never will, as long as he keeps playing!!! :D

Started with Feeding Frenzy. Knew a few songs, bought that CD in '90 and was hooked! bought box set and did first show in '92. Never had such a blast at a show in my life!! The mood from the time you arrive until days later just revives the soul. I will admit due to money issues I have not made it to a show every year. Was able to pull off 2 a few times. That was cool. Missed the year my last son was born. the show was a few days after his birth and had to just say no that year...2001. Been to approx. 16 shows. Just a babe compared to most of those here show wise I guess. A dream would be to be able to just pack up and go to show after show all summer long. That would be heaven for me!

feel alittle embarassed at times to say only since 1990. 18 years is but a spit in the mud compared to some. Still....more important that we make it here at all....not the years right?

1974 - Come Monday
Really stuck when I saw him open for The Eagles in '77 - the summer of Margaritaville. Timothy B. Schmidt of The Eagles dubbed us Parrotheads at that time - so the story goes.
