One more thing...the first thing I thought about the cover was that Jimmy was going to do a cover of Guy Clark's song, The Cape. It is a story about jumping off the roof to fly!

What does she expect? A hologram cover of the roof caving in?

I'm happy to see a somewhat current pic, but would have liked a little more creativity. But truth is, I don't sit and study cd covers like I used to lp covers.
Girl, we should go join FFF. :) I had to look up "fetishist" to see if that was the real word she wanted to use and got to a yahoo site! Whew! That Whitney is so right about that one.

License to Barf

I agree with her....I think this album is one of the weakest things he ever did. Of course the golden days of Buffett are over, but these songs are terrible. Just plain sad. Come on.... "Girls, Girls, Girls." Is he in a hair band now? This whole thing is garbage. If you like it, more power to you. I just wish Buffett would deliver something of quality.

Post by Mango Picker »

I hear he is planning a double CD with Barry Manilow and Celine Dijon...

Come on guy.

Relax and go with the flow. Nothing stays the same...

If you don't like the new, listen to the old and remember the good old days...

Want him to give up and retire? NOT!

I am not looking forward to Chill. I do like George Strait though.
Barry Manilow? No doubt one of the most genius musicians that ever walked the face of the earth. No doubt.

C'mon, guys. The girl's name is Whitney and her column is called "Pop Candy".
You expected maybe a Vonnegut- or Hemmingway-class column?
I think maybe we can judge this publication by it's cover (which is about all
I ever see of it... through the window of the sales boxes in airports.)

Opinions

It's just his opinion. If he doesn't like LTC, he has that right.

worst album cover

Post by velvet1320 »

This from someone who works for a publication that is laughed out of most everyone's list of good reading! Maybe someday Whitney will grow up and get work in a trusted and reputable form of journalism.

How did you get so lucky to have heard the entire CD? I just like the fact that he is going back to his roots. More people should do it once in a while. And as far as quality...he has delivered more than quality in the years he's been in the business. Sometimes quality lies in the idea of a total package, and Jimmy is that. So if something falls short of someone's expectations, well too bad for the individual for forgetting what has been good in the past.

I actually think the title is bad as well as the cover song LTC. I am a big buffett fan but this song is not up to his standards. It reminds me of math sucks. I hope this album isnt filled with songs of Jimmy playing backup like 5 o'clock somewhere. I am seeing a trend already with Hey good lookin. Like I said, I am a huge fan, so Help me see that this is not the case. I don't want him riding coat tails.
'Til one night he did find her

Amazed

Post by Bwana Paul »

I am amazed at how intolerant people can be of another's opinion. So what a writer didn't like it? The guy is trying to make a living, give him a break. If you disagree with the writer, it does not mean that person is a loser. It just means you have different tastes. If we all liked the same things, the world would be a boring place. You can't expect everyone to have the same opinion, and thank God they don't!

That is exactly my problem with critics. We all have different opinions and different tastes. But, unlike most people, a critic's opinion gets published for thousands of people to read. I am never going to get mad at someone if they don't like JB. Heck, one of my really good friends mentioned the other day that Jimmy's music was a little too soft for him. I don't agree with him, but that's what he thinks, and I'm fine with it. The difference is that he didn't publish his opinon for thousands to see. Personally, I hate the thought of thousands of people reading something negative about JB and accepting it as true when it is simply one person's opinion.

critics.

Post by Bwana Paul »

Well isn't that what critics are for? I am thankful that we live in a country where we can say whatever we want. When someone disagrees you can just say, "Hmm, that's a different opinion." There is no wrong or right opinion. If you like, dislike, hate or love something you can tell as many people that you want that it is your opinion.

I think you should wave your flag. "Say what you mean, mean what you say." :D

Whatever happened to having fun. Jimmy obviously enjoyed making this album and for all that he does for us, I am happy to let him have such a great time. LTC is growing on me, give it a chance.
