Whew! I never heard it in person, but did hear it on a recording of one of his Montesorri Benefit concerts. You'd have to be really drunk to think that's funny.....imho anywayJahfin wrote:I don't think you have to worry about hearing that any time soon as he hasn't played it in quite a while as it is.nutmeg wrote:3 God's Own Drunk

I never understood the appeal of God's own Drunk. I have done some research on Lord Buckley though and he was hilarious, though dated.
I never get sick of Margaritaville, and I don't understand the negative stuff about Brown Eyed girl. Maybe I've been a fan of Jimmy so long that BEG seems almost like a new one for me.
Conversely, I can do without Get Drunk and Screw, I don't know why he does it every concert. And I personally think Take it Back is a weak song, but I know some people love it. Other than that, I don't particularly like bitching about what songs Jimmy does. I just enjoy listening to them.

I think "God's Own Drunk" is sorta like John Prine's "Jesus-The Missing Years", it's best enjoyed when performed live in concert because it works best with audience reaction. There's a lot that's lost just listening to the studio version. Still, it's a song I revisit (both live and studio) only occasionally.

I like just about eveything Jimmy does. Given that, I think my three least favorites are:
Math Suks
Elvis Impersonators
My Barracuda
I would rather substitute WDWGDAS for another song, absolutely, but I don't really *dislike* it...
I always liked Fins as a song, before it became FINS!!!

I hope that all the greedy bastards in the world
Come back as lobsters.
You know that life at the bottom of the food chain
Suits them well.
I think that all of the evil people of the world
Come back as horseflies,
They want one last bite before they're sent to hell.

I have said many times, my greatest wish would be for Jimmy to do a "Songs You Don't Know By Heart" Tour where he delved deep. It won't ever happen but it would be great. Long for the days of 6 or 7 standards and the "never know whats coming next" sets.
Spending 24/7 in a Key West state of mind......

I wouldn't want ANY song banned for life. However there are a few I could do without for a while. Especially................
Margaritaville - played by everyone, especially by the ones that don't have a clue who JB is. I heard this played so much in KW(yeah I know, what should I expect during MOTM), that I was sick of it. Everyone says, "Yeah I know who JB is, he does M'ville". Then I have to ask, Do you know any of his other songs beside Come Monday???
