JB & Jack Johnson

Post by Ix-Nay »

I recall hearing an interview with JB on Radio Margaritaville within the last month or more and JB was talking about Jack Johnson and how he was hoping to meet up with him in Hawaii this year.

Although Jack is from Oahu, I think it is no small coincidence that both are playing The Shell within a few days of each other !

Does anyone else recall the specifics of that interview?
If so, have Jack and Jimmy ever played together?
Maybe we can expect a special guest musician for the Hawaii date ! :D

One of the early rumors had them playing together at the Shell. So, it wouldn't surprise me to see Jack pop in to play with Jimmy. Jack's music is the closest thing I've found to JB.

I wish I could say the same but it was all I could do to keep from slipping into a coma when I caught part of Jack's set at the second Austin City Limits Music Festival a couple of years ago. Aside from the big name country stars, I think License To Chill was a step in the right direction but Jerry Jeff's Cowboy Boots and Bathing Suits is probably the best "Jimmy Buffett" album I've heard in years.

I just got 'Cowboy Boots and Bathing Suits' last week because of all the talk here about it, and I must say that it is INCREDIBLE. I also picked up the JJW DVD 'the One and Only', and it is one of the best music DVD's I have ever seen. Small, intimate club setting with just JJ and his guitar :pirate:

Jimmy really needs to do a DVD in a similar format, as well as a full feature concert DVD :pirate:

Meant to add that Jack Johnson's music is great too, but in my opinion it ain't even close to being like Jimmy's music. The tempo is generally a lot slower and even more laid back than Jimmy. I think it would be interesting though if they got together and did a few songs. :pirate:

I agree that Jack Johnson's music sounds nothing like Jimmy's. But the vibe at the shows are very similar. I saw Jack in Philly this summer, and the crowd (while much younger than Buffett crowds) was very laid back, singing along and enjoying each other.

And the music is great in it's own right.

Go see JacK Johnson if you get a chance!

I like Jack Johnson's stuff a lot, but the only comparrison I see to Jimmy is ... they both surf! Johnson's music is much more laid back and mellow.

I enjoy the Jack Johnson I've heard on the radio, and think it would be cool if he and Jimmy got together for a couple songs in Hawaii, esp APLA40. I'd bet Jimmy will be in attendance for JJ, whether he joins him on stage or not.

And on a related note, are JJW cd's readily available in major record stores?

I bought "Gonzo Stew", "The Ultimate Collection", "Scamp", "Night After Night" at Walmart.
Never seen "Cowboy Boots & Bathin' Suits" there though.
I had to get it online. FYE also had a good selection the last time I was there.

Even though Jack has a slow laid back feel to most of his songs, most people would be surprised by the energy of the live shows. Jack does great covers too, you can find alot of marley covers on the net

The two of them would put on an awesome show. Although I'd most likely never end up in Hawaii to make it. :-?

Doesn't (movie "Anchorman") Ron Burgandy call the Jack Black Motorcycle guy something like Jack Johnson in the scene where he hits him with the taco?

I love Jack! I missed seeing him at a small venue in Bend (OR) last summer. :( Jack joining up with Jimmy for a song or two I think would be AWESOME!!! I still have yet to hear his version of APLAF.

Kimbug......I would definitely go see him if you have the chance! :D

It's on "The September Sessions" CD ... it's a real nice cover .. kinda makes me laugh tho when he changes the lyrics to sing "I'm an UNDER 40 victim of fate" :o
