BuffettNews Gathering 2006 Location?
Part 2: Location location location
Johnny of the Beach Bum Band is hoping to plan a worldwide BN gathering, held in the states! There is considerable interest based on the first poll.
We want as many BuffettNewsers as possible. West Coast, East Coast, Midwest, all over the place to join at one central location with a Friday meet and greet, and a Saturday show with Johnny Russler and the Beach Bum Band, and possibly other bands as well.
We want the only costs to BNers to be travel and accomodations, and whatever the cost of booze would be. We want to have a huge Buffettnews.com tapestry made up where everyone who attended can sign. If it becomes an annual Phlocking we can retire the signed tapestry somewhere from year to year.
PHJim has given his approval for it to happen, and part 2 will be determining the location.
We had some ideas thrown out there... which would you prefer?
Disclaimer: This is for planning purposes on possible city to pursue further... nothing's in stone!

Re: BuffettNews Gathering 2006 Location?
If I had a choice for two: Chicago and STL for their ease of getting around. Both have good airports and centralized location with easy access from all over the country; good mass transit systems and easy access to airports; a large collection of hotels that are also tied into that transport network; and a variety of other things to do in town as well as the BN function.Tiki Bar wrote:Part 2: Location location location

Nashville, while a nice city, doesn't really have great connections (not a real hub for anything other than perhaps SWA); no real good transport between say the airport and downtown/interest sites; and is not really central. And {edited statement by owner/poster}.

There are things that I'd enjoy if I was in the other cities:
St. Louis - Food, Cardinals game in the new stadium.
Indy - Half marathon, Indy 500 practice and time trials
Omaha - College World Series
Nashville - Opry, bars along Broadway
Chicago - Parthenon, The Billy Goat, Bears game, Strictly Sail
... but if I'm travelling, there really needs to be a beach.

HEY! I thought it was all about ME !!!phjrsaunt wrote:Since it's all about ME , I picked Nashville. That's the place I'd most likely be able to get to.
But even Johnny Russler said he'd like to go to Nashville....and trust me, Wayne....every big airline comes into Nashville. True, they don't have a subway but they do have buses, trains, automobiles, cabs, rentacars, boats, sidewalks, horsetrails, limos, etc.
Second choice would have to be St. Louis.
These cities have much smaller 'scary areas', square mile-wise. Although East St. Louis is pretty durn scary.

it might also be worth seeing the tour schedule.... depending on the cities, might be able to include a JB show before or after the BN gathering...
Carry on as you know they would want you to do. ~~JB, dedication to Tim Russert
