Signed.
Well I’m a tidal pool explorer
From the days of my misspent youth
I believe that down on the beach
Where the seagulls preach
Is where the Chinese buried the truth...

Jahfin,
Done. I did not know you lived on the NC coast, small world. My sister used to live on Emerald Isle, now lives in Swansboro. I fished this pier many times. Not sure who still owns the pier, but my sister was good friends with the owner a few years back. Thanks for posting this. I have sent the petition to friends.

My hubby and I have owned a home in Cape Carteret for the past 25 years and we love the SOBX with all our hearts. After losing the piers further up the island, it is inconceivable that we will now have to fight to save this one!
Thanks to all who have signed. I've just accepted a job opportunity that will unfortunately take me away from the coast but put me much nearer to someone I care very much about. With the condos taking over it may be time to get the hell out anyway. It pains me greatly to do so but higher wages and the near constant battering of hurricanes to my home have forced my hand.

You’re still grinning, we’re still winning, nothing left to say

This is not meant to overshadow the suffering endured by those along the Gulf Coast at all but Hurricane Ophelia is the straw that broke the camel's back for many of us here along the North Carolina coast. Due to Katrina and Rita coverage this storm amounted to little more than a blip on the radar screen to the national media (and FEMA). You won't see it on the news but quite a few people here are still homeless due to Ophelia.
