What was the last record...

Post by jellocannoncrew »

Hey all, trying to find out the last actual studio "record" that Jimmy put out. I just was given the first 13 albums that he put out, all in near perfect condition(!) and I'm going to have them framed; in bamboo frames no less! But I'm not sure when the last vynal alblum was produced.

And no, they are not for sale!

Anyone?

Thank u - thank you!

IIRC, Last Mango in Paris was the first to be released on CD.

Totally unhelpful and barely relevent, I know.

That's a cool project you got there. Post some pix if you get the chance.

Gollly Gee! If your gift of the first 13 include Down to Earth and HCJ, you really hit in the jackpot in more ways than you know.

This link might help you.

The last studio "record" Jimmy released was License To Chill. The last studio "record" released on vinyl was Off To See The Lizard.

CDs are still considered records, LPs and albums.

Yes, the last one put on vinyl was Lizard. Even then, MCA was obviously sending a message with these releases. Check out the inners... Well, there really aren't any! Both Hot Water and Lizard have clear plastic inner sleeves and lack printed lyrics, a commonality in Buffett recordings, and the CDs of those albums do have them! Hot Water also has song by song notes by Jimmy, also not included with the vinyl LP! MCA was pretty much saying, "Hey folks, time to upgrade!".

Too bad... I would really like Fruitcakes, Barometer Soup and Banana Wind on vinyl LP, and I was just picturing what these albums would look like on the LP format... I'm sure Jimmy would have been all for it with how faithful he is to the format and all, but I'm going to assume MCA wouldn't allow it, as as far as they were concerned, vinyl was dead, when many artists still release their recordings on LP (they're just not in the conventional shops, you got to order online or hunt them down!)

I actually have Elton John's new album comming out in a week or so pre-ordered on vinyl!

I don't have my vinyl albums with me, they're somewhere else, but as I recall Hot Water came with some hype page that had a little history on Jimmy as well as a couple of pictures (the goofy one where he's kind of leering at the camera up against some wall). I can not recall if the lyrics were included with that.

Lizard was about as cheap a vinyl release as you can get. Typical MCA.

The CD record of Floridays - the first released on CD with original packaging - had the lyrics in one edition and no lyrics in another edition.

MCA sucks.

I've got a bunch of my Buffett vinyls framed
in my house. I was fortunate to find a $3 copy
of High Cumberland Jubilee in a used record
store a couple of years ago and I have the
You Had To Be There double album with the
poster that was included with it. At a hole-in the-
wall used 45 record store I found a bunch of
Buffett 45s including a radio promo copy of a
single from either Down to Earth or HCJ(I don't
have it in front of me right now). Looking for
vinyl is like a treasure hunt--occasionally you
find a jewel when you least expect it.
