Anguilla Great House Ordeal
If any of you have reservations at the Anguilla Great House booked through a travel service like Expedia or American Express Travel, you should verify your reservations, even if you have a confirmation code.
I know of two people who booked at the Great House through Expedia who have been told that the Great House has no record of their reservations and I have been told by teh Anguilla Great House that my CONFIRMED reservation made through Amex Travel on 2/7/07 does not exist with the hotel.
F***ERS. No hotels on Anguilla have availability for both 3/23 & 3/24 and staying on SXM does not work because we have an 8:15 am flight out of AXA on 3/25.
So, double check your Great House reservations.

I don't want to live on that kind of island
No, I don't want to swim in a roped off sea.
Too much for me, too much for me
I've got to be where the wind and the water are free.

MacPhin,
So far I know of three different people, including myself, for whom the Great House has "no record" of CONFIRMED reservations the weekend of the show. My trip was booked through Amex Travel and the other two people booked their stays at the Great House through Expedia.
My confirmed reservation for 2 nights booked on 2/7/07 through Amex Travel now "can't be found" by the Anguilla Great House. I am guessing they "lost" my reservation because they wanted to resell the room at a higher rate in one of the all inclusive packages they advertsied on 2/10/07. That's my opinion, at least.
My fiancee and I have no place to stay. Cap Jaluca has a room the night of the show at $1,000 including the taxes and the Cuisinart has a room the night before the show at $1,000 including the taxes. Otherwise, there's nothing else on the Island that Amex or myself have been able to locate for 3/23/07 through 3/25/07. I can't afford $2,000 for two nights, especially when the Great house was $600 for 2 nights.
We can't stay on SXM because the ferry doesn't start running till 8 am on Sunday and we'd miss our 8:15 am flight home the day after the show.
Ugh. When I booked the Great House almost all other places had availability. Now it comes down to having to either take what Amex can find us - hopefully something on AXA or suing Amex Travel for the prepaid flight and other nights lodging. It is awful.
If you are staying at the Great House, and did not book directly through them, I'd double check your reservation.

HI,
Have you tried the website www.net.ai , move down and click on the What's New! It looked like there were some condo. rentals still available. Can't hurt to try. Sorry about all of your trouble, I'm confirmed at the Great House and freaked when I heard about everyone's missing reservations. Mine seem to be okay, probably until I try and check in. I actually work for American Express and I'm very good at finding rooms in this type of situation so I'll let you know if I can find anything! Keep your Fins Up! Worst case... you'll just have to pull an all nighter!

Wow...not good. I'm sorry to read about this mess; and you're suspicions about what happened are probably correct. Maybe JB could put Charleston on loan for folks who are having to deal with this mess. And, for any other "remote" shows like this one that JB does, perhaps he should look at places with a somewhat higher ratio of hotel rooms to show attendees...that would help to prevent any more such antics.

I had a like experience when I went to Aspen last December. I booked through Expedia and the hotel told me they no longer deal with Expedia....once I got there.
I lucked out, as I was only looking to stay one night. I usually do call the hotel before I leave the house, just to confirm, but hadn't because of the weather.
I don't know that I'll be using Expedia again anytime soon. If the price is right, I may just call the hotel directly and ask, before I book it.
