Not to get back on topic, but YA KNOW,
As long as Mr. Buffett is still making great music (which he IS), and as long as he's still doing concerts at affordable prices (which he IS-to me, anyway), I don't care HOW "commercial he gets, doesn't get, what product(s) he endorses, doesn't endorse, or what the hell kind of toilet paper he uses.
Don't want to buy the Reality-Margaritaville DVD?
Then DON'T.

But let him enjoy the same free enterprise system of this country that the rest of us do.

10 years ago when I got a pavillion ticket for the Tinley Park concerts for $65.00, or whatever it was, I said I'd NEVER pay over $80.00 to go to one of his concerts.
But ten years ago, I was making half of what I'm making now. As times change, people's mindset changes with it. What would you have said ten years ago if someone told you someday you'd pay $126.00 + for his concerts, $35.00 for his t-shirts, or $15.00 for his calendars?
Let him make his living his way.
There's no law anywhere that says you have to support him.

I enjoy the books and most of the merchandise anyway. I think there are all great extensions of his songwriting. A T-Shirt is a T-shirt but those cools little signs and stuff. I like those.

What killed it was the $300 blender. For $300 I better be getting more than a "frozen concoction".

The liqour and food though over the top not a big deal to me they tie in appropriately to the songs and lifestyle.

funny enough, this one didn't bug me that much, because it's not a blender.... it's a frozen drink maker; a smaller version of what you see in bars these days. those things cost big bucks..... I didn't buy one because it's way outside my price range, but it's existence doesn't bug me..... it's a high-end appliance for those who can afford it....

Jimmy's a genius.
Many people hate Bill Gates, but millions admire him.
I was just reading about him today, and also about the many times wealthier but still not proven to be geneticaly related other Buffett.
I've always told my kids that I wouldn't trade lives will Bill Gates for anything. I am what I am, and he is what he is. You can't say you could become Bill Gates and then retire to the islands, because that's not being Bill.
I'd take my life over his anyday.
I wouldn't want to be Warren Buffett either. Not really my idea of a good time.
I have friends that earn way more money than me, but I wouldn't trade with them either.
I know people that party hardier than I, and take life less seriously, but no thanks, no swap I would be willing to do there either.
I always can justify being happy with who I am to my kids until they bring up the one person I can't find reason NOT to swap lives with-----JB.
Writing songs, playing music, making people happy, employing hundred's if not thousands of others, doing charitible things with your money, raising a fine family, and doing COOL fun things with your wealth like flying seaplanes and sailing,........ that's the life for me.
Jimmy continues to produce for us because that's his nature.
It's also his nature to make as much money off his thing as he possibly can. Nothing wrong with that.
He could have pulled a Cat Stevens and dropped out of the loop in the late 70's, having earned enough money for many people's lifetimes. Yeah, Yusef's back, but what has he done to make his fans happy for the last 3 decades til now?
Jimmy could have said stuff like "I'm not into this whole commercial thing, Margaritaville is a state of mind, and despite me making all this un-expected money off the tune, I'm not gonna change". But he didn't.
Remember why he went to Key West ? For the economic oportunities of busking there rather than elswhere in the Gulf!
Thank god Jimmy is a hard driving workaholic capitalist!!
Otherwise, we would have just a handfull of vinyl LP's to sing along with.
I don't buy Margaritaville memorabilia, but I sure do spend alot of time feeling the vibe. The more stuff Jimmy sells, the more money he makes, and the harder he is driven to perpetuate the the image ,including new music and concert tours.
That means us fans, "Parrotheads" or not, WIN!!!!!!!!!!

The workaholic JB's got a passion for what he does...including his thirst for trying new and different things. Part of our job is to continue to keep him occupied...and something tells me Jane would go nuts if he retired completely and was underfoot all the time.
