Can't wait to see it. Kinda wondering what went down @ Rick's Saturday night around 10:30 pm. We were getting pizza out front & there seemed to be a little excitement out back.

if it is the night i'm thinking of hard to remember, there was a ruckus at Tony's a drunk, go figure, was harrasing the patrons, us included, we left for awhile, not sure where we went, angelina's for pizza? came back, saw the EMS truck, taking said drunk out on a stretcher

I wonder if this might be the year in which things really start to change, when a lot of Parrotheads become less Jimmy-focused and more trop rock-focused.

MOTM was excellent. It would have been great to see some of the current Reefers in town...but they didn't.

The Parrothead Phlock did a magnificent job of supporting all of us other "trop rock" musicians. Yeah, some folks stayed away because of no CRB this year...but they will hear about the good time they missed, I'm sure.

I think we owe a lot to Jimmy for starting us down this road. And I have a lot of respect for the many years of hard work he's put into his musical art and toward giving the fans a goodly bit of what they want. But I also see a day coming -- and it may be here -- when we no longer need him to have a good time, because we've got each other.

I probably heard two or three Jim Morris songs more often than "Margaritaville" this time. I *definitely* heard Kelly McGuire's "Blame it on Buffett" a *lot* more than "Margaritaville." And I think that's a good thing.

Next year's MOTM is again named after a Jim Morris song. Maybe 2009's will be named after a Sunny Jim song. And the party will go on. Because every day *is* a holiday, and it's all in our state of mind.

And I'm definitely enjoying your CD Loren!!!

I personally had a better time this year without even thinking about weather or not he would show up. I didnt really care and I wont next year. We had more fun seeing Jim Morris, the boat drunks etc.. then waiting around for him to show up. Only time we even went to the casa was to get our bags, still had a blast

I always thought MOTM was a parrothead convention and a chance to see a lot of island-style performers that we don't normally get to see. Who knew it was supposed to be just another Jimmy Buffett & The Coral Reefer Band appearance.

This being our first experience with MOTM, we didn't really know what to expect. I was pleasantly surprised to expereince a good mix of Buffett and other, both familiar and unfamiliar, trop rock performers. Howard Livingston was super! Jimmy and the Parrots were quite entertaining! The Calypso Nuts, Hugo Duarte, and many others were just great. I was definitley not "over Buffetted"...although I did get in a little hot water when I forgot to pack the Buffett CD's for our drive down the keys Won't make that mistake again. But, hey, we had LOTS of new music to listen to on the way back up!

It's not that I hoping to see JB, I was more interested in seeing Peter, Mac, TC, Tina, Mike, Robert and maybe a surprise (HDP!), but I will tell you after talking with quite a few of the Duval Street store people that they are a little discouraged by his absence and they feel a little forgotten. Granted, he has opened a new world to all of us (thank God) and he has shown us the path, but it would be nice to have him pop in once a year to tell us "Thanks" for staying on that path for all of these years- and I'm not talking about a short pre-recorded clip to the PHIP leaders. I know it might seem petty, and if so- forgive me, but I know that if it weren't for JB there wouldn't be "Parrotheads", and if it weren't for Parrotheads there wouldn't be a JB- at least as we now know and love. At the club leaders brunch we had a video from him where he apologised for the scheduling conflict.

There is a lot that goes in to scheduling his tours - he does not do the scheduling - his handlers do.
Good news is that the people I spoke to that are close to him said Australia in Jan/Feb

I can see Buffett in Vegas, but I did miss seeing Doyle and the other Coral Reefers. I thought Friday night was great fun at the Casa and Jimmy and the Parrots were the best on Saturday night at the Casa. The energy was incredible. Jim Morris was also great on Sat. night at the Casa.

I go to MOTM to see all of my friends, including many BNers, have a great time and hear music that we don't get up here in snowy Montana. And go somewhere warm in November. I am the only person in the Montana Governor's Office with a sun tan!

Unfortunately I probably won't be able to go to MOTM next year as it's held the week before the election and I need to be here. But there's Migration next Summer in Vegas!

This year's MOTM seems to have generated pretty much negative reviews, judging by the emails and the discussions on the various boards. Jimmy didn't show, the Reefers couldn't come, attendance was down, the Casa sucks these days, the Keys aren't fun any more, the dog ate someone's homework, etc., etc.

MOTM used to be in New Orleans. It moved to Key West roughly a decade ago. Personally, I love Key West but the place is getting big and crowded and it's just not the same as it was even a few years ago.

Jimmy, to his undying credit, has managed to build quite an interesting little universe of Margaritavilles in some really interesting locations. Why we don't take better advantage of that is beyond me.

Perhaps the time has come to think seriously about rotating MOTM around the various Margaritavilles.

Yes, the logistics will be more difficult than simply contacting the same people year after year. And, GASP!, some people will actually have to experience new places and new things. But change can be a good thing.

For example:

Run MOTM for a year in Las Vegas. Surely Vegas can handle another 3,500 person convention and Margaritaville Las Vegas is better geared up for a crowd than the Key West joint. You've got Vegas to explore, Death Valley to the west and Area 51 to the northeast. What more could a person want?

Run MOTM one year year centered around the Cancun and Cozumel Margaritavilles. Shuttle buses in Mexico shouldn't break anyone up financially and I cannot imagine that airfare and room rates would be any worse in the Yucatan than they are in Key West. Run a shuttle to the ruins at Chichen Itza - there is a Super Wal-mart nearby so the GOP's (Grumpy Old Parrotheads) shouldn't feel too threatened by leaving the USA. Or, as an alternative, run another shuttle to the Belizean border and hop over to Ambergris Cay. That way you can wake up Jerry Jeff when he least expects it.

Run MOTM at the new Biloxi Margaritaville Casino. That place is supposed to be huge so they shouldn't have any trouble putting up 3,500 Parrotheads. Get those shuttles warmed up again and run to Margaritaville New Orleans, Margaritaville Panama City, and Lulu's. Get out and see a little bit of where Jimmy's roots originated in LA (Lower Alabama).

Y'all might even consider doing a year in Jamaica, Mon. I'm sure that Ziggy Marley would love to entertain at the Margaritavilles down there.

And finally ... after a hiatus ... run the convention back to Key West. It might be nice to return for a year ... at least until Margaritaville Havana opens.

I hate to disagree with you, man...but in my reading of the boards and talking with folks, I'd say the comments are running 80-90% positive. Most of the folks who were unhappy about the CRB not showing who still *went*, had a wonderful time. There were some legitimate issues with the Casa, but anyone who just stays at the Casa misses a lot. And the De Walts say they're working on those issues for next year.

I *like* Key West, crowds and all. I like being able to walk everyplace I need to go, and I like having things scattered somewhat around town.

Granted, I also enjoyed Migration in Vegas this past summer, and there's somewhat to be said for an event that stays in one place. But it's definitely not the same flavor of vacation.

Margaritaville Casino in Biloxi might be interesting, with a day trip to N'awleans.

I like the idea of rotating it a bit. I am tired of the "Parrotheads s***" attitude that KW seems to be bringing out more and more. Sure, the folks we help like us, but the merchants see it as another chance to gouge the gringos, the Crawl gets old after your 1st one, and maybe if the Casa had to scramble to sell rooms a couple years between Fantasy Fest and the Boat Races, they might actually have a better attitude.
