I've read this one. Not bad. But after a while I get tired of the series characters.
Ohhhhhhh I know what you mean. I'm only on page 115 and wonder if this is the same theme for the next book. Most likely Alibi is my last in this series.
After Buffett's last book, I'm not sure I will purchase "Swine Not". I'll just borrow from the library. I don't think I will ever go back to Salty Piece.

Thanks for that link. It reminds me of an interview with Hemingway in By-Lines.
He was asked what books should one read. And he names off about twenty classics like the ones in that link, and the kid responds, but one can't possibly get through all those in a lifetime. Hemingway said, I know, but you asked what one should read, not what one can read.

Wow...I bought the first two of that series and never got thru them, I was bored out of my gourd. Maybe I should give them another shot, since you and I typically like the same books. I think I gave them away though.
Wow! Cool thread! I have a "book journal" filled with the names of books that I want to read at some point. I got tired of finishing a book and not knowing what I was gonna read next! Anyway, I haven't made it entirely through this thread yet, but have added alot of books to my list! Thank you BNers!
I'm currently reading "Stingray Shuffle" By Tim Dorsey...I agree with what someone said about violence. I kinda like it, but he's no Hiaasen. I just finished reading Hiaasen's "Flush" to my kids on a long car trip. They loved it!
OK...one more thing...anyone ever check out www.bookcrossing.com ? I think alot of people from BN would probably enjoy this site, and maybe would wanna start a BN bookcrossing...maybe you already have?
'Tis very strange men should be so fond of being thought wickeder than they are.

No action. No sex. No real mystery to solve ... but getting to know the characters has really made me appreciate the series ... HBO's just wrapped on the first of 13 episodes in a mini-series, with Paula Cole (? - Blues singer) as lead ... they kinda remind me of the AT HOME IN MITFORD series, just plopped down in Botswana.

Feedback on the Julie Andrews book would be appreciated too...love her.
The Julie Andrews book is wonderful ... warm ... chatty ... nice ... like the lady herself. Read about 3/4 of it last night ...utterly charming.
I've been disappointed in Barr, too ... will let you know about this one ....
Thanks Ter. I keep giving these authors another chance, hoping they will snap out of it, but so far no luck. Unfortunately Barr isn't one you usually see at the used bookstore (unless it's one's I've donated), so I probably won't find it there anytime soon. I finally got wise on Patricia Cornwall, I will never buy another one of her books until someone swears it's the best thing ever. I hope I don't have to go down that road with Barr. With the price of books these days I've gotten pretty choosey when buying anything new.

After Cornwell's last stunt, I will *never* buy her books again ... government conspiracy and the family of Ruth Graham are to blame for the bad reviews that BOOK OF THE DEAD received. Yeah, right. And I'm a size 2.
If I didn't have this job, I'd be at the library all the time, because who can AFFORD to buy a new book?

I have books to read, but right now they don't interest me. Maybe I'll take a run to the used bookstore today and see if I can find something for my upcoming trip. I'd like to find something laugh out loud funny, like Celia Rivenbark's books.
