Why do you allow this to continue?
Because I'm trying to lighten the mood. I've never really been a problem to anyone.

What good do you think can come out of this now?

A lot Gary just taught me something and explained his joke. You'll notice this was dialog that Gary and I carrying on. No hostility no anger.

What redeemable conversation or point of view is left? This is NOT about any intelligent exchange of ideas of views. This is NOT about people looking ideas and dialog.

HUH!?

Suggesting a gov should pose in a p*** magazine?

I didn't suggest it. Larry Flynt did. I'd buy it because I think she's hot. No more no less. Pure curiosity and my wife is ok with it. As for other women on BN I would only share my findings if asked - Not force my opinions upon them even though they may disagree with mine.

Ridiculing a WWII vet, senator and statesman?

I didn't ridicule him. We are in a political thread and having political discussions that span from Marxism to conspiracy theories. I did not understand the Left hand only remark. An off color quick retort was Bob Dole. No disrespect intended as I did not call into question his service in WWII. And as for statesman lets continue the conversation about about Barack Obama a serving senator is not an American Citizen some more . . .
There’s absolutely NO RESPECT here.
or patience, or humor, or open mindedness, or the ability to seek the truth from others before casting stones, or the ability to accept how our democratic system works . . . the list goes on . . . .

This is disgraceful!!
And sad that an attack like this is coming about . . . . I agree.

mjeischen-
WTF? No disrespect? Are you kidding?

No disrespect was intended. Yes I was kidding the whole time.

He took the campaign plane. Not a smart move. He should have flown commerical ... for real.
I can't imagine that the Secret Service would allow any presidential nominee to fly commercial.
That's a poor excuse for taking a 200 seat airliner to Hawaii instead of buying seats on a scheduled flight.
It's not that he needs extra seats, it's a matter of security. McCain does the same. A sad commentary on security concerns but a serious concern nonetheless.
It has nothing to do with security. It has everything to do with consistency.

He preaches energy conservation on one hand and then uses a 757 as though it were a private jet. That's not consistent behavior and it's not very environmentally friendly.
I thought the CIA called all the shots on security details and in this case though we may agree or disagree with HOW he got there it may have been mandated.

Obama has had security since shortly after his presidential run was announced because of death threats due to his color of skin. There are alot of things we may not be privy to which may have driven this decision.

3 months after the election I expect to be picking up a copy of Hustler featuring Alaskas very own.
No doubt I will be thanking you every day, if that happens to occur.

The question becomes, who will you and the majority of the population be thanking or cursing 3 years from now? :o

As for you and Hustler magazine, well there is a lot free p*** on the internet. Your money for now to do as you will.

Tell you what, let's cut out the middleman and the goverment. Just send me all of your money and I will ration out to you what I think you should have and be able to keep. I promise to allow you rhum and beer rations. And maybe allow a Buffett concert or two to be considered medical exspences to save your sanity.

Lets see the goverment, under either Obama or McCain, do that for you and your money. :pirate:

BTW, does anyone know what Sarah Palin's favorite handgun and rifle calibers are? Let alone the makes and models? Which does she prefer?

I find that much more interesting than talking about what some political party paid to have her "dressed" and those clothes will be sold for or donated to charity(ites). Notice there is no mention of what both parties pay for the men, or even what was paid for Hillary, to be "dressed".
Any wonder or is that just a oneway street for potential female Republican VPs? Do we actually vote for a VP or just the primary Candidate? :pirate:
I voted for Bush in term 1 but voted against in term 2. Thats what we do when we don't agree with the president and his policies.

I could careless about the clothes or the dining expenses. I did hear the items will go to charity on the news after the fact. If thats true then thats good.

This is what happens when we've turned over every ounce of dirt on the campaigns and we need to find a way to coast to the finish. This is frivolous news.

I agree, while that stuff is mildly amusing at best it has nothing to do with how I voted (voted early) my vote was cast as it was because the core values of the Republican party no longer have anything to do with what I think or feel to be right. I was a registered Republican for a long time until Bush #1 aligned himself with the Christian conservatives and that was enough for me. Plus, I'd rather have my money spent on social programs than another useless war that seemingly has no end.

Besides, most calculators I look at say that I'm actually going to get a break from the Democratic tax plan as opposed to all the Bush cuts that got me a big $66 stimulus check. And just for disclosure I'm at what is considered the upper end of the middle class - I've reaped zero benefits from any Bush cuts. But this may all be moot no matter who is elected. How does anyone thing the massive debt is going to get paid off? Buttons?

I guess it's "Tax & spend" or "Spend and let future generations worry about it" huh?

The Secret Service was established in 1865.
The FBI was established in 1908.
The CIA was established in 1947.

See these healthy discussions breed learning opportunities. I thought the Secret Service was a division of the CIA when in fact it is its own branch. It was originally formed to investigate financial fraud then upon the assasination of Pres McKinley tasked to protect our president and other government officials where deemed necessary.

Because some people think there is good to come from these conversations, Dan. I, for one, do not like them. Others do. And there'd be too many cries of censorship and 'freedom of speech'. Others may see it as a way to continue to show their points of view and of their candidate. I will be very glad when this is over. :-? :-? :-?

When they become personal attacks against one person personally. I agree.

Otherwise there is no harm. These are ways for people to express themselves AND to educate others about their beliefs and candidate. No ones beliefs are wrong unless they are based in slander and lies.

Larry FLynt did push a Sarah Palin button. Right wrong or otherwise it happened.

Barack Obama is an American citizen. Barack Obama is not a terrorist.

The Secret Service is not it's own branch. The Secret Service is under the Treasury Department.

When Obama went to Iraq, guess who he requested for his security detail there? Can you say Blackwater? After all of his negative comments about Blackwater, he still requested them.

In the last seconds of today's appearance on Meet the Press, John McCain sounded like the guy I grew up admiring ... he was humble, gracious and there was not a sneer to be found on his face as he accepted Brokaw's thanks for his service to his country and returned the accolades to Brokaw for never forgetting his roots. If this McCain had showed up to the debates and on the stump, it would be a much different race. IMHO.

Woman Attacked At ATM, Assailant Carves Letter Into Her Face

PITTSBURGH -- A 20-year-old woman who was robbed at an ATM in Bloomfield was also maimed by her attacker, police said.

Pittsburgh police spokeswoman Diane Richard tells Channel 4 Action News that the victim was robbed at knifepoint on Wednesday night outside of a Citizens Bank near Liberty Avenue and Pearl Street just before 9 p.m.

Richard said the robber took $60 from the woman, then became angry when he saw a McCain bumper sticker on the victim's car. The attacker then punched and kicked the victim, before using the knife to scratch the letter "B" into her face, Richard said.

Today on my way to lunch I passed a homeless guy with a sign that read "Vote Obama, I need the money." I laughed.

Once in the restaurant my server had on a "Obama 08" tie, again I laughed as he had given away his political preference -- just imagine the coincidence.

When the bill came I decided not to tip the server and explained to him that I was exploring the Obama redistribution of wealth concept. He stood there in disbelief while I told him that I was going to redistribute his tip to someone who I deemed more in need--the homeless guy outside. The server angrily stormed from my sight.

I went outside, gave the homeless guy $10 and told him to thank the server inside as I've decided he could use the money more. The homeless guy was grateful.

At the end of my rather unscientific redistribution experiment I realized the homeless guy was grateful for the money he did not earn, but the waiter was pretty angry that I gave away the money he did earn even though the actual recipient deserved money more.

I guess redistribution of wealth is an easier thing to swallow in concept than in practical application.
This was funny, at least to me.

I pay over 51% of my entire annual income and investment earnings in taxes today (federal, state, cap gains, personal property tax). I find great irony the vast majority of people supporting Mr. Obama do not pay either this rate, or the ridiculous total taxes in dollars I personally pay. It is painful to think my taxes both in raw dollars and tax rate will go up with Mr. Obama in office. How much is enough?

The above story does illustrate one thing related to my future behavior if Mr. Obama is elected. To make up for Mr. Obama taking money out of my pocket, I will give much less to my personal charities, and also be more conservative on other spending habits that does directly help people of lesser means. This does not mean I am not a charitable person. It just means the government taking my money at a higher rate to give money to those less fortunate will mean I give directly less. The government will then be my major designated charity.

Call it a resulting form of wealth redistribution.

PS: Other than the tax thing, I do like Mr. Obama.
You seem to have a better grasp on what you pay in taxes than most people.
Jackie....my exact point.

Many years ago I paid around 20% of my income and paid some $14K in taxes. It hurt, but it was fair.

Today, blessed with far more income. Instead of paying 20% of that income, I pay 51%. If we all had the same tax rate, trust me, I would still pay far more than the average, and it would be fair and in proportion to my income.

The average person voting for Mr. Obama would go absolutely bonkers if their personal tax rate was 51% today of their income versus half that rate they pay (or less). Said another way, an average person making $60K pays around the $14K I paid years ago. Could you imagine all of the people wanting "fairness" paid my tax rate and shelled out $32K of their $60K annual income and Mr. Obama actually had the nerve to ask for more? Somehow, I have a feeling a republican just might win.

Now, before anyone shoots back something to the effect "hey pal. quit your complaining, you seem to make a ton a money" Or "quit griping, I would love to make your money and have that tax problem" My answer to this comeback is simple. I earned every dollar, took many risks, invested well, saved money and made more investments. This took huge effort and my opinion it is insane to grab 51% and soon to be higher proportion of what I worked hard to earn.

PS: Still like Mr. Obama personally and he may not be bad for a million reasons. Also think John just made about the worst VP pick ever. Could anyone honestly really see Palin running a country? I would not hire her as a junior manager trainee in my company. I am not sure what John or even Alaska was thinking with this one. She is kind of good looking. Wish the good ol republican party could have offered up a better alternative than John and the others that did not make it to the final round.

Mr. Obama...hope you have what it takes, looks like "you da man".

Jackie, again, thanks for making me chuckle. Your story framed this single tax issue well.
See, you've made a great point. You worked hard, you took risks which should equal YOU being able to keep more of what BELONGS to YOU.
Jackie

I really can't fault him for requesting the protection - there's still a bunch of racist extreme radicals out there with the attitude of "I would love to put a bullet in that n....." I thought it was primarily and attitude of the south, but I've found I was wrong and stereotyped my fellow southerners unjustly. I've been really shocked at how some up here in the liberal PNW have been expressing their displeasure in his race.
