Great Time at Von Jakobville!

Post by SoILPrtHed »

For all those that went- what a time! For all those that didn't- wow, did you miss a great day and great concert! The Boat Drunks played their tales off and Nadirah, my fellow Texan, was great and was so open and friendly to all who met her (by the way, Nadirah if you are reading- there was no reason for you to put on your face!). Everyone had a great time and the people at Von Jakob were so nice!

Happy to hear someone else got to enjoy Nadirah and the Boat Drunks this weekend! I was happy to make 2 out of their 3 recent shows 'round these parts! :D

My daughters Haley and Lindsey and I played hookey Friday afternoon and ventured a few hours south to the Krannert Center at U of I in Champaign. The girls were blown away, and sooooooooooo happy they could join me! And I was happy to share this excellent adventure with them!

And BOY did we all have a wonderful time at this cool 5pm show. There were close to 1000 people there, including families and friends of the Boat Drunks, and quite a few kids. Lots of water bottles hoisted for the SOCIAL!! The Boat Drunks started out the evening playing some Jimmy songs and some Boat Drunks favorites. One of their covers that I would love to hear Jimmy add to his setlist, and rather enjoy is "Love and Luck". Deb Lister, who played piano with them on Friday, went up front to join Jake Tatar on the vocals for that one. Then Nadirah joined them for many of the songs on "Nod to the Storyteller", and others.

Mr Howie Golub on that harp (he makes it sing!) and percussion and vocals and such:

Mr Dyke Corson on that pedal steel guitar: (and lead guitar at times, and hamming it up after the show!)

Mr Larry Lister back there on those drums:

Ms Nadirah Shakoor on those vocals (and tambourine at times) and Mr Jake Tatar on those vocals (and guitar):

Gotta love "Give Henry the Receipt!" Here's Nadirah with Mr Aaron Walk on that bass, after she explained how he was 'walking'.

Mr Andy Gaines on those keyboards:

And Mrs Deb Lister was at the piano on the right of the stage.

Nadirah invited the kids to the stage for Margaritaville and Volcano, and after some initial hesitation and shyness, many joined her for big thrills of a lifetime and fun up in the spotlight!

And the great evening was capped off with an AMAZING double encore! Nadirah singing "Wonder Why We Ever Go Home" and "At Last" by Etta James, accompanied by Deb on piano, and Howie on the harp! WOW!! I didn't get a good pic of them unfortunately, but here's Jake and daughter taking it in...

GREAT JOB GUYS AND GALS! And THANK YOU ever so! :D And to hard-at-work manager Todd Lindsey, I saved the date! August 1st... C-U in the Prairibbean V featuring The Boat Drunks with Nadirah Shakoor! http://www.eiphc.com :D

The night was so special, and I was so drunk with happiness and high on life, that I agreed Saturday morning to take a couple warm fuzzy permanent reminders home with me, from my brother. :o :D I blame you all! Thelma and Louise are two little 7 month old precious puffs that he found dumped in a cornfield on a desolate Indiana highway in December. My girls didn't even have to ask, much less beg... they had me at hello! (and yes, it was a surprise attack! I hadn't heard a word about them before we got there.)

Once again, what a great recap, Tiki! Very glad you and your kids made it down and took it all in...hope you enjoyed the pizza!

It truly was a special weekend with Ms. Shakoor. She is, as all of you know, an AMAZING performer and just nails everything onstage. But, most importantly, this very lucky manager found out just how great a person she is offstage. Truly a remarkable lady and so easy to be around and work with...and she's funny, too!

You got it...Save that date! August 1 here in Champaign, IL to benefit breast cancer research: Nadirah Shakoor with The Boat Drunks...presented by The Eastern Illinois Parrot Head Club.

It was a great time. I haven't been here on BN in a while and was very pleasantly surprised to see your pics and recap Tiki. I especially love the pictures of the children on stage. If I didn't sing for my supper I would definitely be working with the youth instead. Thelma and Louise are precious. Thanks for being you.
