Personal preference for you I am sure.

I loved hearing the live debut of "Turn Up The Heat and Chill The Rose" when I was in Paris. Great song! Looking forward to hearing that one again on Thanksgiving. Thanks to you Jimmy!

But then again, I loved hearing "Party At The End Of The World" at all those shows in 2006 too. :)

Ah. I finally understand what y'all mean now about A Lot To Drink About. Well, until the album comes out, I'm curious how the rest of the song sounds.

So does that mean Volcano is dated? If anything, it's current again, with Three Mile Island back in the news...

I absolutely LOVE the funky organ on Nobody from Nowhere, Big Top and Summerzcool. A very underused sound the last 20 years.

Love the steel drum (combined with funky organ) on Turn Up The Heat and Chill The Rose.

I loved Summerzcool from the first time I heard it, I sat down right away and worked it out on guitar.

Rhumba Man is the kind of offbeat, chatty, self-deprecating song I love Jimmy for. Can't wait to get the whole think so I can pick it up.

Buffet Hotel has kind of a Party at the End of the World feel to it, it's ok, could take it or leave it.

Lot to Drink About is very silly and intended to be so I guess. It's ok for what it was meant to be. I don't know that the world needed a studio recording of it, the live versions are more in its spirit, I think.

On whole, a more upbeat collection than Bama Breeze, which pleases me greatly. I liked Bama Breeze, but it was a little too laid back.

I actually like most of the new songs for this cd. Nobody from Nowhere, Rhumba Man, Wings, Beautiful Swimmers, quite a few songs that sound good at least in this small sample from the website.

I also liked Buffet Hotel, I cant wait to hear the entire song.

It sounds ok to me....For me as far his latter years I have always liked the Fruitcake sound the most. I thought it captured the true Jimmy Buffett sound and what made me a fan to begin with...

That is interesting that you say that about Fruitcakes, because Barometer Soup has a more distant sound to it. Fruitcakes is very clear and upfront.

I have always enjoyed the percussions in Fruitcakes, Sunny Afternoon, Apocalypos,Quietly Making Noise, She's Got you and the acoustic feel like songs Six String Music, Lone Palm, Love in the Library, Delaney Talks to Statues etc...to me every song on that cd really had that "Island" feel to it.
Other cd's since then would touch on it, but none since Fruitcakes has had it all....(It just fit my taste) now I am not saying I don't like anything since...I have, but it's the only one that I felt every song was a strong one.

Am on my first run-through.

Do NOT like the rap tune ... TURN UP THE HEAT AND CHILL THE ROSE ...

We've heard NOBODY FROM NOWHERE, SUMMERZCOOL, RHUMBA MAN, SURFING IN A HURRICANE and A LOT TO DRINK ABOUT.

I'm kinda liking WE LEARNED TO BE COOL FROM YOU ...

Different vibe on this record ... at least on first pass. Am not sure it's a real "Buffetty" CD ... at least not as upbeat as some. Think BEACH HOUSE ON THE MOON. At least, that's what it feels like on the first run-through.

I'm going to have to read the liner notes and listen a couple more times before I can really say.

LIFE SHORT CALL NOW ... pretty sad, it seems. "How many ways to say goodbye can one man fit in a nomad life?"

Am not sure about BEAUTIFUL SWIMMERS ... "Norma Jean just did the backstroke Like she was reaching for a falling star."

SURFING IN A HURRICANE loses all its charm on a disc. It was one of my favorites this year in concert, but the whole Ventures vibe is gone. :-?

One word about the liner notes. This is just the editor in me: There are no indents for new paragraphs. It's a little off-putting.

Glad to hear your thoughts!
Just from the short clips I've heard, I think I agree with you, but can't wait to hear the full length versions of the songs we haven't heard in concert. I am anxious to hear Surfing in a Hurricane and see how it was changed??

A LOT TO DRINK ABOUT is acoustic ... and I really like it.

SURFING IN A HURRICANE loses a lot in translation from live performance to CD. It's one of my favorites, but this version didn't make me boogie in my seat like the live version does.

Hey Texas - does Turn Up The Heat And Chill The Rose have the same cheese factor to it that that lousy Party At The End Of The World has? I'm guessing yes. Why does he DO that?
