The Right Kind of Flip Flops to Wear......

Post by springparrot »

The right kind of flip-flops to wear this summer.
At last, the breezy days of summer are upon us. Instead of repeatedly checking the daily weather forecast to deliberate if we need a scarf or sweater for layering, we can enjoyably slip on some comfy shorts or an effortless sundress. For many of us, flip-flops become the go-to footwear to accompany such an ensemble, but as we’ve often been warned, these flimsy slip-ons do not always provide ideal foot support.

Even with a comfortable flip-flop, you should limit your use to no more than a few hours of wear. "If you’re hanging around the pool or going to the beach it’s fine. They’re not going to kill you," says Dr. Positano. "Where people get into trouble is when they use them all day, walking around, and standing for a long period of time." The worst scenario, perhaps, is what Dr. Positano refers to as the "Disney World fracture." "You have a person who’s already walking more than they’re accustomed too. Pair that with foot gear with no support, and you have the quickest way to arrive at the vacation from hell. Trips are ruined because people develop stress fractures, knee problems, and hip and back problems."

Yikes---and yet I wear them all the time we are there.....tennis shoes rub blisters on my feet, so I changed to flip flops many years ago and haven't had any trouble since! :D

this is a list on accepted flip flops

A girl can never have too many pairs of flipflops!!

I bought a fantastic pair when I was in Orlando recently, the are made by Sanuk (it means smile in Thai) they are called Yoga mats and the soles are made of just that. They are one of the most comfortable pairs of flip flops I have ever worn.

PS I cannot wear 'Fitflops' I just find them too heavy!!

I have seen that brand while there, but all I have seen have rubber straps and I can't wear those.
I have to have fabric straps.
My Margaritaville flip flops suit me fine :D

Like the good Dr said, I only wear my leather flip flops for short periods, as my feet do get sore. But, I'll second Sanuks....I love mine, can wear them all day and wear them year round. This is the model I have

I also swear by my NAOTs, as I can wear them all day without getting sore feet like simple flip flops cause.

Neither are actually flip flops, but they are comfortable. :D

I wear the cheapest rubber thong style from Wally World/Target/K Mart and the like a lot and have no problem. Love them. I've paid big many for flip flops, 20 bucks once but still come back to the cheapies.

Not quite flip flop but close is a pair of Pali Hawaii sandals at a beach shop in St. Augustine last year for under 10 bucks. They're the most comfortable sandals I've ever had. Waterproof, all rubber (except the buckles) and molded soles. I thought they'd make my feet sweat but no.

Wow, some of those are over $80! I have a high arch, but no trouble with the Margaritaville flipflops. I actually paid $33 for a pair of Reefs, but they do feel good. I may look on eBay for the orthaheel, as they look comfy.

I wear flipflops 90% of the time, mostly croc flipflops and Margaritaville flipflops with the thicker soles. The other times I wear crocs. I have no reason to wear any other closed in shoes, except for my golf shoes when I golf, tennis shoes when I mow the lawn, and occasionally boots when I ride on the motorcyle.

My feet are used to walking miles and miles in flipflops. I even got used to wearing the Skechers Tone-ups. It did take some short walks and building up time in them. It felt like the top of my foot was being stretched a different way at first. Never tried the Fitflops.

I don't wear the thin soled sandals or flipflops at all...I need the cush.

I wear flip-flops probably 97% of the time...even in winter (and I live in Erie, PA :o )...I wear the fleece lined crocs (ALWAYS without socks!!!) to get from the house to the car & through the parking lot, then change to flip-flops as soon as I get to my classroom.

I own LOTS of different flip-flops, but mostly wear a black pair by Reebok with a slight arch support...I HATE closed-in shoes and avoid them as much as possible... and I DESPISE socks....

Must wear proper footwear while riding motorcycle, though :D :P :D

But otherwise, flips are definitely the footwear of choice.

Flip flops are the most comfortable for me, even for travel and lots of walking.
I am gonna splurge and buy me some Naots for vacation this year. [smilie=battingeyes.gif]
