And, if it's any consolation to Seahawk fans, their team is pretty much garunteed a victory for the next two weeks.

Re: 2014 NFL Season
Can't remember the last time the Steelers defense was this bad. Worst defense against the run they have had in many years. Want to beat Pittsburgh? Just run the ball. Going to be a long, brutal season for this team.

Not only the passing TD record for Manning, but a nice win for the Broncos.

Re: 2014 NFL Season
The game has changed so much from the days of Tittle, Tarkenton, and even Marino that someone reaching 500 touchdown passes should come as no surprise.SMLCHNG wrote: Not only the passing TD record for Manning, but a nice win for the Broncos.
Look at how much the rules regarding pass coverage as well as protecting the quarterback have changed since the 1970s. Look at how the concept of "pass blocking" (specifically, the use of the hands by offensive linemen) has been altered over the years. Look at how much some of the coaches have embraced the air attack. Last year (2013) only five teams in the NFL called more running plays from scrimmage than they did passing plays, and some teams such as the Browns, the Falcons, and the Cowboys called as many as TWO passes for every running play. Even as far back as 1990 more than half (15 out of 28) of the teams in the league called more passes than runs. Hell, why not air it out? Even if your man doesn't catch the ball you may get a pass interference flag, which still translates into a gain on the play.
And of course the clock stops on an incomplete pass, which results in more plays from scrimmage in an average game these days, which equates more opportunities to throw for six.
Considering too that they play more games (16 regular season games, plus as many as four playoff games before reaching the Super Bowl — and these passes count in one's career stats as well!) than they did in the 1960s and 1970s, I'd be surprised if the trend didn't continue. I personally predict that we will see someone (perhaps Manning, perhaps someone else) raising the bar to 600 career passing TDs or more before the record is ultimately declared "out of reach".

Re: 2014 NFL Season
Yup -- not only will we take our conference lead but we'll take the NFL lead (at least until the Eagles play next weekend)

I'll just say again, Congratulations to Peyton Manning on his accomplishment.

Career records are regular season stats only, playoff games and Super Bowls don't count.

Re: 2014 NFL Season
I was watching ESPN today and they showed some highlights from yesterday's games. Another clown blew out his knee celebrating a sack. Let's see - 3 minutes left in the game, your team is losing by 25 points and it's the backup quarterback you just sacked. That calls for a celebration. Now he's out for the rest of the season. F'n idiot.

He's getting roundly mocked by other players, the press, and the fans.LIPH wrote:I was watching ESPN today and they showed some highlights from yesterday's games.
