wantagh / Jones Beach concert THE DRIZZLING s***

Post by Fullfloridiancj »

Just saw my 14th buffet concert at Jones beach today.
I couldn't have been more hyped for the tour. I looked up and down the setlists from the past two weeks. Thinking I was going to see
"I don't know I don't care" "Spicoli theme" "Quietly making noise", "meet me in memphis" and "Love and luck" He even did an acoustic finish to the Mass show that consisted of Last Mango in Paris. The Door number 3 vote for your song is an amazing concert idea. Die Hard parrot heads would love to hear one new song per show, while the casual fan would be happy with the Big 8.

jimmy played a total of 24 songs. This is the shortest concert in recent memory clocking in at under 2 hours. None of the songs I mentioned above were to be found. The only thing refreshing was "Homemade music" which wasn't even in contender ship on the voting list last I checked. What happened to "My African friend' and "12 volt man"? They were higher on the list. How do you do Love and luck (the most requested song on the tour) in burgettown PA and give absolute junk to Jones beach. He lives 10 miles away and has been known to do double concerts at the venue. Not for nothing, but ticket prices are ALWAYS 30 dollars more than in southern states like florida. I thought he would do extra for new york. He gave us the bare bones minimum. After One Particular harbor (which is never a song he finishes with) the lights came on and he rushed off the left side of the stage into a cadillac. Something was very strange and rushed about this concert and I feel ashamed to say billy joel at MSG outclassed Jimmy in every way this month.

Jimmy says The north east states are his biggest merchandise buyers. Well why give us such a drizzling shits concert. Im 27. Love his music. Took my family to this show. Have gone to shows in New York, Orlando, and Tampa and Im very very disappointed.

Jimmy I know you make millions, but before you drive off in your cadillac play the songs ...That's all I ever asked

Maybe he had diarrhea and just didn't feel like announcing it to the crowd and ran away quickly in the Cadillac because he was about to have an uberpoopie. That's what I would have done.

Jimmy has been averaging 24-26 songs per show this tour only 3 shows have had more the 26 while two show had less than 24, Jimmy also had to adjust the set list to make up for the absence of John Lovell and his Trumpet as John's father recently passed away. On top of the that Mike Utley rushed the set set list by start Fins ahead of Floridays

I checked the BN setlist database. Last year's Jones Beach show was only 23 songs. Roughly 1/2 of this year's shows have been 25 songs or less. Saying last night's show was "the shortest concert in recent memory" would suggest a short memory.

If I'm not mistaken, Jimmy lives in Sag Harbor. I lived on Long Island for more than 50 years, I never spent a lot of time in Sag Harbor (or anywhere else on the east end) but if I had to guess I'd say it's a good 70-75 miles from Jones Beach not "10 miles away." As for doing double concerts at the beach, while technically correct, it's not as if Jones Beach is Great Woods, Cincinnati, Manassas, Irvine or Las Vegas where double concerts, and sometimes 3 or 4, used to be the norm. Jimmy's first show at Jones Beach was in 1985. 1993 and 2013 were the only years he ever did 2 shows there.

Tickets have always been more expensive at Jones Beach because it's the smallest venue he plays on a regular basis.

I've been to Buffett concerts in 27 states, Anguilla and Paris. Not every show made me all moist in the loins. People have bad days. Deal with it.

You may not have liked the songs he played or how he played them, but he did play the songs.

Congrats on doing the research
And I thought I had no life.
Concert still sucked compared to everything else.

Since you do such a nice Backround check could you tell me where I could Find the 2008 Obama rally concert ?

The only research I had to do was looking up the setlist from last year's Jones Beach concert to see how many songs he did, probably took a lot less time than it took you to type your screed.

I'll take that as
I don't know where to find the Obama rally concert Bc it wasn't played on radio margaritaville.

The fact of the matter is...
The concert was lacking
There was no encore
And he obviously didn't look at what fans voted for on the door number 3 voting site
I didn't know one of his band members father passed away, and for that I appologize. However, that does not excuse him from not playing an acoustic encore. #lazy
Don't have the type of time to go to 20 tours per year and hear everything ...
Must be nice

The shortest concert was House of Blues in Boston ... 18 songs with most being the standards , part of the reason , it was hot as hell in the building , I think AC was down. As disappointing the set list was , it was a great experience, and show in an intimate building.
I was in AC , great show , but the band was escorted out very quickly in vans. I've seen Mike Love of the Beach Boys do that , off the stage into a car .that waiting on the side of the stage. He was gone before the rest of the band got off the stage.

I would have gone to a concert in my home town of florida.
But the state was skipped this year

Last year
I went to Tampa and Orlando
Should have gone to west palm too

But who knows ?
I thought he was going to put on an amazing concert for New Years at the Barclays ...
I flew up
And it was standard at best
I was happy he played blue guitar
But the fruitcake with new verse stunk

His songs aren't very taxing on the voice
I wish he would throw in one or two songs from old albums like
Distantly in love
Or bring back the magic
And do them the entire tour to give me incentive to go
I want to love buffet
But I feel like he caters to the casual fans who just want the big 8
And the drunks that are to high to give a crap what he sings

Not that I've seen him a TON, but he's only played an acoustic encore at one of the shows I've been to, and that was a special Freddy & The Fishsticks show in Aspen (Coast of Mersaille and it was f*cking glorious). Otherwise, most shows I've been to have ended in upbeat songs (Denver x4, Virginia, Las Vegas). It should be considered a treat to get the acoustic encore--not a requirement (although, if Jimmy really did it for the fans, every concert would end this way). It just doesn't happen as often as one might think.

One time he even played that shitty Dave Matthews cover as a closer. Talk about s*ckage.

The last time I saw him in Denver, it felt totally phoned in...and I decided to skip the next one (maybe 2??). I dunno. Just wasn't feeling it. I'm excited to see him play Red Rocks this year since it's my backyard, but I'm completely prepared to be disappointed with the setlist (and cold because WTF schedules an outdoor concert in Colorado in October???). I won't be disappointed, though, with the gobs of Parrothead friends coming to town to see the show, too. To me, that's what is going to make it amazing. My peeps.

it's so difficult to tell
like if gordon lightfoot was such an inspiration
don't just play early morning rain in Canada ...
bring awareness and play it each concert for the new tour
chicago- banna republic
MSG- pirates look at 40
Tampa- trying to reason with the hurricane season
tampa - texas florida is here in my heart
tampa lovely cruise
orlando- nautical wheelers
tampa tin cup for a chalice

these are what brings me back to the concerts

Weird how the Tampa Obama rally was such a great show with only 11 of the same, or the same caliber, songs played.

I'm partial to the acoustic final encore, I like that quiet goodbye moment with Jimmy. And still would like to get to a Jones Beach show at least once.

Jimmy isn't Bruce, Bruce just did a 4 hour show. :o But I don't go to JB expecting Bruce. Mostly going for the overall experience, seeing friends, tailgating, etc. And there are still gems. I know it's a cover but Into the Mystic at GW was one of my favorite JB concert moments ever.

also look at the setlists for this year
he did love and luck at the last six concerts he gave jones beach nothing
don't know why you wish to defend him...

keep in mind the obama rally was free and the only show he did in florida that year
this all plays a roll
he also was not gun hoe liberal during the show which i respected
