It's the Most Wonderful Time THURSDAY@ the MSC

Post by bodypainter »

Good morning BN. I love the holiday season and all it brings. When I retired, I really missed the phun holiday crafts I did with the kids. Anne has put some of my examples out to decorate the house. Any keepsakes in your decorations?

Good morning, Bill and BN! :)

Yes, I have a stocking that my great aunt gave me when I was maybe 10? So, it's almost 50 years old. :D

Off to that work place. Have a good Thursday! :)

Good morning everyone. We are down to our last 36 hours here in Key West.

Trying to sort through work emails so I don’t need to deal with 300 when I get in on Monday. So glad we will have the weekend to regroup from our trip.

Happy Thursday! I have the stockings my mom knitted for each of my daughter's when they were little girls, and they have hung every year since she made them. We have many ornaments on our tree she made and some she made with the girl's, so we have many sentimental things in the house during Christmas.
Today, I am having lunch with my mil and then we are going to a florist to order the centerpieces for the annual Christmas Party. After that, I am coming home to work on another tradition. My fil started asking everyone to write a letter of sorts about the past year in our life, or something that touched us. We make copies and everyone gets a set and we keep them in a binder. He calls it the Yost Family History. I need to get my letter done....it gets difficult sometimes to figure out what to write about.

Good morning. I have a Charlie Brown Christmas tree so there's no room for anything of sentimental value. Although the little red ball kind of reminds me of the giant red balls that were across the street from my office in New York.

Since I was raised in foster care I don’t have any holiday traditions which makes me sad. But that is also the reason I cherish all things Christmas.

No passing down of Christmas decor or memorable items from my youth.
The "memorable" decorations that I have & will always keep are 1) ornaments made by the kids/grandkids, B) ornaments that have the kids/grandkids pictures inside them & 3) ornaments (Christmas monkeys) that my wife treasured.

Sadly Christmas inside my home has altered since my wife's passing in 2013.
My Christmas joys & memories are mostly found inside my daughter's home these days....

Afternoon BNers

I have my stocking that was made by a family member when I was born. ❤
I also have 2 green hand blown birds that were on my grandparents tree, then my parents used them and now they are on our tree.

We're ok at the moment, but it's a bit like a medieval siege. We're surrounded, repelling the marauding invader and wondering if salvation will ever come...

Some folk haven't been so lucky.

Last count I heard was four people have died and well over 600 homes lost just in this state.

It our work Christmas party this afternoon, that might bring some cheer!

A view of the Sydney Harbour Bridge, yesterday. Sadly this was during one of the clearer patches. An hour later it was fully obscured.

It's been like this for a few weeks as the fires rage around the state.

Sigh..... I boxed up Penny's painting and was doing a few cards when the phone rang. My old college buddy who has lived a large life called to confirm he has ALS. His spirit is strong, but the disease will take him. He said if he can fish a few more times, he will be happy.

Count those blessings, pholks. They can be precious.

Wow, this thread really brings up what is important--tradition and caring for others. I have a bunch of ornaments which are from my childhood and also made by my kids. I haven't begun to decorate this year because my Christmas stuff is still at the old house and it is a process to get things. It will be a different Christmas now that I have my own house and the kids visit at times but don't stay. Not even sure I am going to decorate although I think I should just to try to keep a routine.

So sorry to hear about the fires, Rabbitz. Sending lots of positive vibes that you are yours are safe.

I guess it is time to get ready for work. I really could have slept until noon today. Well, at least until 6...oh to be able to sleep for hours and hours and hours like I could when I was a kid. :)
well, ummmmmmm, yah, I guess I better come up with something witty to put in this spot since everyone is reading it.......
